Marvel Unlimited (Online Comics Library) - Annual Subscription AUD $77.22 / USD $60 (Usually US $69)

PANTHER

Inspired by blankedboy's deal I thought I'd check and see if Marvel Unlimited (online comics) is on sale again.

Lo and behold, it is in time for the Black Panther movie. usual annual subscription is $69 so not that big of a discount ($5 x 12 months = $60)

Unfortunately doesn't apply to the "Annual Plus" subscription.

I haven't used it for a while so i'm unsure how much of a delay there is (if there still exists one) between the print copy and online so this link may not apply.

Also, here's a handy link that should help with reading orders and such.

  • and based on blogs regarding "is Marvel Unlimited worth it" - it does appear to be so
e.g. read one of the more recent posts here

  • Once a year I signup for a free trial to see if it's improved, and every year I end up leaving. Trying to read a story run in proper reading order should be the simplest thing in the world, but in my experience they've failed at this miserably.

But, it's a new year, so I'll give it another try (assuming there's a free trial at the moment).

    • Honestly, I think you're probably not trying very hard enough if it's failed miserably.

Try this as a guide: https://www.comicbookherald.com/the-complete-marvel-reading-…

      • If it requires 'trying hard' they've failed in making a usable product.

In my past usage (probably 18 months ago), I'd begin reading a story line, and would have to refer to external reading order listings, and then try and locate the right issues through the subpar search, often finding that issues weren't missing.

I shouldn't have to refer to external websites to find the reading order. Marvel are the publisher, they have all this information, they just need to work it into the app.

          Sure, each to his own.

App isnt perfect, but it is what it is. You get a shit load of history with Marvel comics. If you can't accept having everything not served to you on a platter, then you don't get to experience some really fantastic stories. The whole cosmic marvel story line i think is best story arc they've ever done. House of M is top notch and Siege i think was pretty good. AvX was great and there are some great Hawkeye and Winter Soldier series that were so great i stopped thinking they were a waste of space.

I'm on my 3rd year of subscription and im determined to get through the modern marvel stuff from start to finish (using the link i posted).

I would kill for something similar with DC comics.

  • The semi regular Amazon sales (if you've linked your Kindle/Comixology accounts) are pretty amazing. I've managed to stay pretty current with most of the books i want to read in digital trade by waiting for them to come around every couple of months.

    • hmmm that's a good point actually. i've never considered linking them, even though i've got a comixology account as well as a kindle account to hoard the free books :-)

Well worth doing - you're Kindle purchases through the Amazon interface automatically mean you get the Comixology version as well. And Amazon are significantly cheaper (especially for Marvel books) than Comixology.

The only thing to be aware of is, I used to use Paypal to pay for Comixology books, but when you link them you have to start using a CC (normally the one associated with your Amazon account).

  • I think it's still about 6 months behind…

    • yeah, that appears to be the general consensus on the blogs i've just checked.

  • Yes but I need a decent tablet to read them on first - waiting for another special on a CHUWI Hi12 12.0" tablet

    anyone tried one?

    • +2

Yes, I bought a Hi12 for that purpose. It runs both Android and Windows so you can use the Android app or the browser interface for Windows. I found the android app to be better actually as the Windows browser tended to miss page loads on every third comic or so. Plus the android app lets you download a handful of comics to read offline.

The screen on the Hi12 is excellent - 2160 by 1440 pixels and very good contrast and brightness. The 3:2 aspect ratio is better for comics than a 16:9 ratio screen. The processor is not exactly lightning fast but certainly more than adequate for reading comics, watching videos and web browsing.

Comics on the Hi12 are as close to 'real' as I have seen and the tablet has several hours of battery life (I get around 4 - 6) so it should be plenty enough for reading in bed or on the couch or even in transit. Personally I sometimes wish the screen were slightly bigger but that is probably because of my aged related vision deficits and pinch to zoom certainly helps rectify any issues I have.

      • What a great review. Thankyou
