Should I Wash My Car?

Hi all,

Recently bought a car (yes yes, laugh at me, I'm the AMG kid)

Getting my car washed professionally fort he first time.

I planned on getting it washed tomorrow, but the forecast looks like it may rain in Sydney throughout the week.

Do you think it's a waste to pay so much for a full detail only to have water/rain marks, and polished wash off potentially, a few days later because of rain?

Should I Wash my car?

Yes, just wash it - it isn't feasible to keep waiting for it to "not rain"
  • 185
No, it's a waste of money. Wait till the weather is clear for at least 5-7 days after the wash

Can you please drive down to the Grampians in Victoria and wash your car here? We haven't had rain for months.

    Should have got a beemer

Q: What is the most useless job in the world?

A: Putting indicators on a BMW.

You should wait till it rains then run outside with the sponge

No money spent, car is clean.

    No need for a "professional"

What on earth are they teaching you at Uni besides how not to cope with first world problems.

      • +135

Thanks toons. I think you can leave that particular decision to me.

Excellent close this ridiculous thread, so far it's been obvious you can't make a decision

The car was pre-owned by a father of a young kid. The car is in need of a professional clean and warrants some services that can't feasibly be done at home.

So that would be the inside of the car that does't get wet when it rains, which BTW the rain was you're only concern above.

I'm also pretty sure my hourly rate is a damn sight more than a professional car cleaner, So fine i'll wash your car, be prepared to handover the keys till you can afford to pay up.

So get your story straight and your real concerns not just finding a way of promoting the fact you're a Uni student with an AMG it's really not that big of a deal one of my mates has a younger brother who owns an AMG 63 a Skyline Drift car and a 4WD and he hasn't finished uni yet, however he does also know how to wash the cars I've seen him do it with his bare hands.

Enjoy your sleepless night worrying about this significant life event.

finding a way of promoting the fact you're a Uni student with an AMG it's really not that big of a deal

Someone mentioned in another post that it was actually an A200 with a kit. Which makes it an AMG-wannabe. If I was going to buy that car, it'd be for my girlfriend. haha

Edit: I read further down and realised that that someone who mentioned the A200 was actually you! :)

        • +6

What do they teach at uni these days?

        • +9

@unistudent1: Oh god you're back, you actually still don't get it do you!

I can't believe you didn't learn anything from being thrown in the sin bin you have just come back to feed your ego again

        • +7

          @unistudent1: now you get it

You lost all respect and people couldn't be bothered with you spewing useless drivel for no good reason AMG boy

to be fair you did say

(yes yes, laugh at me, I'm the AMG kid) and they did!!!! Mission accomplished

        • -6

          @Toons:

I literally have nothing to say to that.

Must have low ego thinking an A200 is good. It's a basic entry level car for noobs to show off a badge pretending to have the $$$.

          Omg what a donkey bro

        • +2

          @Suspect420:

Actually when i went to uni i drove a BMW 328 (10 years ago) and i never washed it or had it detailed. I parked it in a multistory on the top level, not many people parked there plus it was pay by the hour. Only 4 people knew i had that car lol

      • +12

I think you can leave that particular decision to me.

        /thread closed!

        • -4

Sorry I was referring to the decision on whether I get a professional to wash it, or if I wash it myself. Sorry for the confusion

        That comment went well…

You should wait till it rains then run outside with the sponge
No money spent, car is clean.

No true Ozbargainer would go to the expense of buying a sponge, just wait for it to rain harder.

      • I was hoping he had one so we don't have to write up a report on the efficacy of sponges in Rain , Hot Soapy water, and used with just plain cold tap water.

  • +83

    is this shit serious.

    • +28

Perhaps not. He's in the penalty box now. Soon I may post a forum topic entitled "I tasted a grape without paying".

      • +10

Or post up about about their A200 AMG “again” and ask if they should pay someone put air in the tyres

        • +3

Is it worth the extra for nitrogen?

        • +5

of course it is if it gives you a chance to post a new thread to talk about your A200 AMG again…

        • +5

More like should I put German air or Australian air in them and is German air worth the money.

        • +1

@Alpacino299: Have more potato and wait until tomorrow.

I'm waiting for the forum topic "Should I brush my teeth if I'm going to eat again in a few hours?"

      • -1

Next thread will be “ Should I clean my bum I am just done pooing”

      • Perhaps not. He's in the penalty box now. Soon I may post a forum topic entitled "I tasted a grape without paying"

Parklea has a penalty box for thieves.

      • I reckon you would be hung, drawn and quartered by the ozbargain mob…. Do it!

    • -5

Yes. I don't know whether or not it's a counterintuitive idea to wash a car if I know it's going to rain in the next couple days.

      Problem?

      • +4

        maybe phone a friend.

        • Or get hundreds of valid opinions all at once in one go :)

He didn't get enough attention about his fake AMG the first time

  • +23

Wow, I'm surprised you didn't get the self-washing AMG option.
(things must be tough on struggle street) lol

  • +1

Wash in your car is a guarantee that it will rain within a few days.

  • +23

Almost sounds like you're really just here to show-off.

    • +13

      just full of shit, really.

      • +4

I bet his friends (or whatever he has left of them) are already sick of his bragging.

        • +8

They probably still attend his $12k parties, but with 180 people there you could probably avoid him most of the night anyway.

        • +4

          @sss333:
lol! That's the first time I've seen that post!

The word humble obviously hasn't made it into his vocabulary yet!

        • -7

          How much did you bet?

Whatever the amount, you just lost it :)

    • +13

Certainly is he was asking what to keep in his car a little while back and it's an A200 which is NOT a true AMG

The A45 is the only true AMG in the A Class

A200 AMG Line, Is an A200 with some AMG appointments included over basic, sportier bumpers and side skirts are added, along with 18-inch multi-spoke AMG alloys a changed gearbox that decreased that blinding 0 - 100 time to 7.8 seconds

      • AMG styling is not AMG.

        • +2

Yeah i think i covered that above

        • @Toons: Just saying bro, tbh I wouldnt classify anything less than 8 cylinder as AMG either :P

        • @Ragnarok1983:

I've drove a few of the AMG's and i think anything that can mix it or in a lot of cases smash the performance of what was a classification for the supercars has had a bit more work than the boost screwed up from factory, which is the whole point of the likes of AMG

It's fair to say that used to be the company's direction about 8 years ago so they changed with the times and so do we, they had the SLK 55 which was an awesome 8 cylinder but even that fails to dent the new smaller engines, the next one will be another reduction for the petrol engine towards the hybrids

Anyway even that won't magically transform an A200 into an AMG. :-)

      • -7

Lol I'm sorry I don't make the rules? I'm sorry you got offended?

Lol I didn't brand the car as an AMG.

It was literally designed like that haha. If you have a problem maybe speak to MB?

    • -3

Believe me mate, I'm silly, but not THAT silly that I would "show off" my wealth ANONYMOUSLY on a BARGAIN hunting website.

  • +23

    troll

    or worse just an idiot

  • +2

    What model did you get?

    • +4

Not the good one. But it was cheap.

    • -3

      Hey :)

      I got the A200 2015 model - scored a good deal!

      • +1

Nice. I would love to get a C63 AMG but happily settle for an A45 AMG

        • Renault Megane RS Cup.

It's no AWD but it's a much better drive than the A45.

The A45 is decent but for that price, the RS3 is a far better choice.

  • +2

Actually going to answer the question - what someone does with their money is not my business.

If the forecast was for rain all week I personally wouldn't bother with a professional wash unless they were going to wax the vehicle all over.

    • +17

It’s a troll post. You got it all wrong. It’s not about the question, but the fishing for comments on the new car. It’s all part of the Mercedes Benz owner experience… OP even gave themselves a nickname…

    • +24

what someone does with their money is not my business.

That is very true and normally I wouldn't judge, but no-one appreciates people who come here to brag with a question like that. Mentioning "AMG" in his post was totally unnecessary.

It's like coming here and saying "my cock is bigger than yours - should I wrap it around my leg or just let it drag on the ground?"

      • Big deal. Are you that insecure that someone typing some letters on the internet gets you riled up?

        • +6

For me, it's the intention behind the actions that I look at.

Sometimes, instead of feeding it, it's necessary to call out dick moves.

It's obviously not the first time for OP. And that probably explains why he's in the penalty box.

        • +5

@bobbified: he’s in there either for the his last reply to my comment (unfortunately it got unpublished before I saw, I love inflammatory posts) or it was for insulting someone’s mum a little further down when someone said he should’ve gotten a BMW. The last reply I saw from him was when he said I should go cry over my pathetic life after looking at his amazing one lol, I just had to reply but unfortunately the mods didn’t like it. Probably saved me another penalty box visit for a month haha.

This uni student with a pretend AMG needs help, I wonder what he’s like in real life.

        • +6

          @niggard:

Want to know what he is like is real life? just scroll over his post history and look at all the questions he asks. It just screams insecure millennial. Can’t do anything in his life without asking for validation.

The other half of his posts are “humblebrag” posts…

        • @niggard:
His life is hard. He either has to wrap it around his leg or drag it in the ground. Give him a break.

      • Well, should you?

        • Better to let it drag and develop a callus.
No time to unwrap and then rewrap in the shower every morning!

Dangling it also helps with the balance.

        • +3

I suppose you could also nickname yourself tripod without sounding too pretentious

      • +8

should I wrap it around my leg or just let it drag on the ground?

During cold weather, I use it as a scarf. A word of caution though, don't do it if you get easily excited as death may result.

        • Or you’ll get accused of spitting at beautiful women!

      • +1

“It's like coming here and saying "my cock is bigger than yours - should I wrap it around my leg or just let it drag on the ground?"”

I can imagine Donald Trump saying something like that.

    • Thanks Flying Ace.
I really don't get the problem. I literally just do not know whether I'll be wasting my money if I pay for the wash, only to have it rained on a few days later.

I'm young, don't have a lot of experience with cars and so I thought I'd ask.

Apparently it's not as simple lol.

      • How much money do you stand to “waste” on a wash?
And how does that compare to the amount you wasted on that car?

  • +11

Simple, get the AMG washed. Then as you go through the maccas drive through, think how impressive that would look.

    • +5

Windows up at the Car Wash
      Windows down at Maccas.

      not

Windows down through the Car Wash
      Windows up at Maccas

  • Wait till it rains, go down to the local spray was your own car place, all the shit will be soft cos it's wet. Makes it much faster and cheaper to clean.

  • +2

    This kid is plain bored.

    • -3

      Helicopter bored.

  • +3

Can I wash it with my metal broom?

    • +1

Smuggler do you legitimately have a metal broom? If so, where did you get it because I want one.

      • +1

I have a steel wool broom. I basically glued bits of steel wool onto an existing broom and removed the bristles.

        • Nice :) Does it work well? I’m thinking something like a giant steel wire brush would be useful for cleaning and marking wet concrete, but would be different to steel wool.

        • +1

          @Jawanzar:

Yeah, it does. Just need to wrap or glue the steel wool on properly.

Works well to get shit off my ceramic outdoor fixtures and concrete ground and walls around the property.

        • @smuggler:

Awesome :) Thanks for the reply! Will endeavour to create my own.

    • -2

Why would you do such a thing?!

  • I drive a Mercedes only because I can't afford an Australian sedan from the 70's.

  • +5

You should get your car cleaned now and after it rains because you are a rich kid and your amg has no time for that

    • -1

Lol if I was that rich I wouldn't be on Ozbargain haha thanks though!
