Good Running Shoes at Reasonable Price. Suggestions Please

I used to buy Nike running shoes at around $200, but since I got a New Balance in a bargain here at around $80 I feel stupid buying another shoes at $200.

I have been waiting for another good bargain, but nothing so far.

What do you guys suggest for a good running shoes?
What do you use, Nike, NB, Adidas, or another brand?
How much was that?

Cheers

      dunlop volleys?

      • no, $25 KT26ers.

26 being the length of a marathon (in miles), so they must be for running…..

Depends on your feet - do you wear a neutral shoe or need stability as you over/under pronate?

I keep an eye out on here for bargains on premium running shoes - I roll in and wear Asics Kayanos, and gto a pair of 23s and 24s from deals posted on OzBargain for about $150 instead of the $260 RRP Rebel and Athletes Foot are charging.

    • +1 Asics Kayanos
I have destroyed 5 boots and 4 pairs of shoes bought after my Kayanos. The only thing they have avoided is cleaning fluids. I have used them on concrete, on rocks, on sand, in the ocean…

They are still comfortable and show minimal signs of wear (the bottom pattern has faded and the foam has pit marks but that is about it).

Have a look at the outlets, when sales are on, etc.

  • I've found the shoes at the Fila outlets at DFO to be of excellent quality and great pricing. When I see the Nike and Adidas pricing, it blows my mind people are paying hundreds of dollars on a pair of runners.

    • Depends how much you run. My Adidas Supernova Glide 8's have got just over 900kms on them and the Continental sole is still holding up and the boost midsole is still fairly responsive.

If these were cheap shoes they'd have fallen apart or broken down hundreds and hundreds of kms ago.

If you're just after walking shoes, sure go cheap. When you're running 200km+ a month, you need shoes that last otherwise you'll be breaking in new shoes every other week.

  • I buy whatever is being discounted at Nike/Adidas factory outlets near Auburn (Sydney). Usually ~$60 or so for a pair of decent runners, but no way of checking what is in store online

What do you guys suggest for a good running shoes?

How much do you run? What kind of running (road, track, treadmill, trails)?

In all honesty a "good running shoe" is seriously personal. My favourites at the moment are my Adidas Boston 6's for road (super light and breezy), my Altra Escalantes for long training runs (great cushion and no drop) and my Speedcross 4s for trails (grip and tough).

What I tend to do is:

    1) Check reviews on sites like Runrepeat.com to see what's currently rating well

    2) Go to a bricks and mortar store to try them on - but very rarely will I find them on sale.

    3) Jump onto a site like Wiggle or Wildfire Sports, combine with coupons, and see how cheap I can get them.

I start by finding the best shoe for me, and then finding it as cheap as possible. As opposed to just finding the biggest discount on any shoes. Bargain shoes that sit in the cupboard don't help anyone. Dream shoes for a great price will keep you running happily for a long time to come!

  • Head over to Athlete's foot and get them to have a look at your feet (using that machine they have). They'll give you some suggestions and you can go from there.
