Car hire (rental) Auckland 11th Jan 2011 for 8 days - best deal sought.

Hello, I'm looking for a good car hire Auckland 11th Jan 2011, return 19th Jan (=8 days). OZ-Bargain posters from Jan 2010 used http://www.discount-car-rental.co.nz/ and http://www.a2brentals.co.nz/ (both end up at same booking web page) and did very well. They got $34AUD per day for 2006 Subaru liberty and $40 a day for mitsi lancer only done 4000km (these are A2Bs Premium class). However, this year I'm only getting 1990's cars at $44/day. Premium class are showing as $64 or $77/day for Jan-2011 and I can do $47/day form Thrifty with a Corolla which is big enough for us. I usually try to get $40/day or under.

By using www.argusrentals.com I can see it can be done for A$300 for a Volkswagen Polo or similar (a European site I think) for the 8 days from one of the majors. I have excess insurance overseas covered by my Cwth MAV credit card. Argus take $51 of the $300 and don't reveal which major it is until you pay. I prefer to go direct to the major if I can match it so I know exactly who I'm dealing with and what type of car it is (Polo??). I could search each company website for promo codes (Argus search applies these) but maybe some one here knows the best current deal already. Thanks in advance for any replies.
