New solar system installed, which energy company in Sydney is best for a user with solar?

I am currently with AGL and this is my last bill with 32% discount on elec usage.

Peak 124.454kWh $0.54 $67.21
Off peak 1634.651kWh $0.15 $245.20
Shoulder 393.307kWh $0.23 $90.46

Supply charge 91 days $0.96 $87.36

It is off peak heavy as we time the dishwasher washer and the pool at night. Also the AC for sleeping. We are going to shift that to Solar (washing and pool).

Gas bill-
Peak 7221MJ $0.028 $202.19
25%Pay On Time Discount $50.55

I am pretty happy with the discount and all. The trouble is it is up for a renewal again and they will probably try to shaft me with a standard 15% discount until another power reseller tells AUSGRID to get me to another provider and AGL will come up with their best offer.

My question is has anyone achieved both a good discount and a good solar feed in tariff with their provider in Sydney or anywhere else? Any helpful suggestions?

Update: AGL stated that in their records my meter is not a smart meter and not ready for net metering feed in tariff. AUSGRID has recently changed the whole physical meter last December 2017 and I doubt that they will install a non smart meter. Its either AGL is delaying my net metering or their records are off, or both.

They are saying up to 27 days to fix this. Pretty precise— 27 days

  • I'm also interested in which energy company people use with their solar system, what their feed tarrifs are?

  • Single rate is usually cheaper, isnt it?

    • Not if you use 80% off peak

You have solar, unless you're on one of the old, generous Feed-in Tarrifs getting paid more for your export than you pay to import, you should switch your usage from Night to Day as much as possible.
Run the Dishwasher and Pool Pump using your "free" Solar Electricity rather than paying Off-Peak rates.

    • Will definitely do that

All the generous FiTs have ended in NSW.
Typical FiT is now 11c here.

  • Who did you use to install your panels and what type are they?

I'm also in Sydney, but don't have off peak, so the pool pump is costing a fortune to run. We've also got reverse cycle AC in the house which runs around the clock with my wife and two little ones home through the day.

    • I went with JT Solar Aussie hybrid solar w/ Terry. Very good communication.

Off peak would probably not work if the aircon is running at peak times all the time but solar would definitely fit in the picture.

Longi panels, Zeversolar inverter 4.6kw was max for my roof. 6kw was initial quote
Price was 60% of what AGL solar was quoting. I must admit AGL solar was all premium cells and inverter so it is not an apple to apple comparison

When you installed your solar, the solar installer should have either arranged the new meter, or advised that you needed to get this done. Most new meters that have been supplied by Ausgrid in the past are what they call interval meters. They get rid of the spinning discs. Smart but not smart enough to record inward AND outward energy flows.

In my case the solar installer was also a level2 certified electrician, so he arranged everything. The Meter was installed at the same time as the panels. Now this cost me, as Ausgrid dont install the meters. You have to arrange this either with your own installer or an electrician. Its part of the extra costs of solar installation. (Yes even though I had what I thought was a smart meter, which was 6 months old, it wasnt the correct meter)

If your switchboard also requires upgrading, a certified electrician will be able to do the work for you to ensure your switchboard is compliant. Mine needed this as it was rather old (asbestos) and had old wire fuses, no circuit breakers.

Read these two websites to get more detail (says it better than I can)

      http://www.solarcitizens.org.au/after_i_install_panels_what_…

      https://www.energymatters.com.au/residential-solar/solar-met…

If your meter cant read the outgoing, then obviously you wont get credit until the correct meter is installed, and of course no back payments either.
