Recommendation for Cheap Motorcycle Learner Course? VIC

Hi there! I am getting extremely jealous of all those motorcyclists zooming past me when I'm stuck in the peak hour traffic. So I want to join them.

Called up a couple of places offering licence courses, it seems that the going rate is around $500 for a two-day learner course, which is a bit pricey for me.

Maybe someone knows of a cheaper courses/promotions in Melbourne?

Welcome to the life of not wasting time in traffic! I feel like I may have been one of those people that influenced this decision..

The cheapest place to do it is constantly changing. Recent changes in government regulations have changed how learners need to be trained so its costing a lot more than what it has in the past due to the fact that its quite comprehensive. You could rock up having never ridden a manual motorcycle before and you will walk away knowing how to do so..

I did mine a couple of years ago at Motorcycle motion, they were good but I dont think that they were the cheapest.

My friend did it at Armstrongs Driver Education which is just under $500 for a two day weekday course (it was the cheapest at the time, unsure if it is anymore..).

Please also bear in mind that you will also need to do the licence course after a couple of months of riding in order to actually get a licence (and not just be on your L's.. which expire eventually).

The licence course is between $210-$300-ish.

Maybe try some training centers out in the country? They might be cheaper.

    • I have the same thought as OP sometimes sitting in traffic.
Do these training places provide motorcycles? or is this all BYO?
What if I just want to try it and see if I feel safe enough/like it?
What about electric motorcycles (I hate loud motorcycle noises)? same rules? better off getting a electric bicycle?

      • When I just got a job in CBD, PT was sometime a nightmare to deal with so got my bike license. No regrets.
The learning course will supply the motorcycles usually a Honda 125cc.
Unfortunately there is no “free trial” classes, you paid for the course and get your Ls, then decide wether you want to get your Ps or let it expire.
Don’t know much about electric bikes but when you start riding, loud motorcycle is what you want (not stupidly loud though).
Drivers may not see you but they can definitely hear you.
Last thing you want is to get chipped by a car and stack because “Sorry I didn’t see you there”

      • I'd never been on a manual motorcycle before and I picked it up during the learner training.

Regarding electric motorcycles, it depends on the size of the engine. Anything large like a Zero motorcycle will require a licence but a 200w pedal assist scooter won't require a licence.

    • Thanks a lot for all the information!

Try “Riders Bro training centre” in calder.
Still looking at under $500 weekend and maybe $100 cheaper during weekdays.
Will need to call up to confirm.

    • Thanks, I called them up. $450 for a weekday course. That's the cheapest I've seen so far
