AmEx Removed as Option for Paypal on IG Share Trading Platform

Not sure if anyone else is using IG, but they've just removed AmEx from their options on Paypal as a way to deposit funds into the account, thus removing a sure fire way to earn AmEx points.

Anyone have any other options to earn points quickly through any organisations that treat money deposited as a purchase and not a cash advance?

  • But they have a 1% transaction fee for PayPal. Surely you're not earning free points!

Given Amex was giving me 1.5 points equivalent to 1.5%, yeah I was getting free points.

    What’s IG?

Instagram - but doesnt make sense

    • IG is a share trading platform.

  • Transferring money to someone via PayPal will still earn you points on Amex as a purchase

    • But PayPal's standard rate is 2.4% is it not?

I wish I knew about this earlier though, I get 2% back with my amex setup

Yeah you’re right, my setup also give me 2% so even with the 2.4% fee it’s still valuable if your goal is FF points.

        Explorer and Platinum Edge? ;)

@MathNerd: haha, with me through the thick and thin :)

Since IG ended Amex via Paypal have been looking for what you're talking about, any hints on where to look re the Explorer/Edge combo you speak of?

  • Im sure if youre a haed core points collector. Youd try to fund by paypal and then withdraw but im sure if you say put in $100k and withdrrw ot straight away it would catch the eye of money laundering laws

  • I noticed that "Plus500" which is an investing platform allows you to use Paypal to deposit funds, does anyone know whether AMEX is accepted with them?

  • I can't believe I didn't know this, if there is a fee I generally avoid it and don't look at the maths
