Cherry Blossom Spots in Tokyo/Kyoto/Osaka

Hey guys,

Where are some of the good spots to view cherry blossom (sakura) in Tokyo/Kyoto/Osaka?

I've never been to Japan and not too sure what to expect.

I used to watch Japanese drama where people go for picnics and stay at a spot for like half or entire day…

Any tips will be much appreciated!

Thanks

I think it's time for you to start doing some research on Google and Youtube. There's an abundance of sites answering this very question, with pictures and videos to support.

  • Its pretty good everywhere tbh. Shimbashi street in Gion (Kyoto) was a really great spot though.

  • I went to Nagano and there were good cherry blossoms there, but there are lots of places. Around Kyoto is also nice. The trouble you'll find is if it is a windy cherry blossom season they won't last long. So make sure you are there for the peak.

  • all of the famous spots are too crowded and you need to get there ridiculously early to find a spot.

do you know any Japanese people that can take you to a local spot?

      Ozb is new age google.

  • As one of the comments above said, they're pretty good everywhere once they've bloomed.

for example - there was a small park/playground a minute down the road from our AirBnB which had some cherry trees and these looked great.

alternatively, there are smaller roads in Tokyo (like Sakura Dori on the way to Tokyo Central) that have cherry trees lining the road. or even the bigger roads around the imperial palace have cherry trees lining the road.

so yeah, plenty of chances to get up-close and personal with cherry blossoms

  • Yoyogi park in Tokyo is very good. It can be very packed especially on weekend. Arashiyama in Kyoto is good too. Nice walk there.
