Do people still buy these? Batteries hard to get, non LED, etc etc

    • +1

yep, big reflector and very waterproof.

You can get gel versions of the batteries ………

I'd be interested if there was an easy and cheap LED and NiMH conversion that's not a day of DIY.

For some reason people do, the biggest reason is storage life and the floating capabilities.

      • +4

The storage life isn't as great as people make out. A number of times I went for one of these a decade or so ago and it turned out to be flat.

        • Agree. I don't see their battery lasting in storage as long as LSD eneloops.

Don't know why someone down voted me… Maybe they're stuck in the 1980's like these dolphin lanterns…

          @dangerdanger:

You were voted down because Ozbargain has a terrible moderation system that unfortunately is easily abused by bullies, cowards and deniers of reality. You could provide absolutely undeniable proof of your claim and someone would still vote it down simply because they don't like the fact. Shoot the messenger.

        • @syousef:

That's not the only reason, sometimes a comment will be negged because the poster comes across as a sanctimonious knob!

Doubt that's the case for dangerdanger but true in other instances.

Try modding the comment instead of the person.

    • @ $4 = not many

The led version of these came out a few years ago. Brighter and longer run time , these ones, incandescent, are now a bit redundant

Let it go, Eveready, just let it go.

      Can't hold me back anymore

      • Turn away and slam the door.

Ever ready. These have been out forever already!
Why are these still a thing? It's not exactly economical now with the price the batteries have been with what you pay.

    • I've seen many of these on fishing boats. What else would you recommend?

      • An LED Torch / Floodlight thingy.
MrRevhead has posted a good deal at Aldi that happens every so often. Otherwise, source one elsewhere.

Remember when cameras used to run on batteries? Gaming console controllers? They cost a fortune in batteries and this isn't really any different. LED is a lot more friendly on the wallet I believe.

        • Not if it gets stolen from your boat ;)

        • @GregFiona: Haha well true, but it's just up to you to put it away lol ;)

Aldi sell a multiple LED version for about 8 bucks now and then.
