Reasonable Flights to Japan Via Qantas

Hi Guys,

Not matter what I do,I don't seem to be able to find reasonable flights to Japan over Dec/Jan.

Ideally I want to go between 20th-23rd of Dec and return 20-23rd Jan.

I change the dates on Qantas website, but no matter what I try, I don't seem to be able to get less than like $3600 for myself and my partner.

I always see people post cheap flights via Qantas during specific dates whenever I try those it doesn't work.

Let me reword the question:
- Is the qantas site always the set price. Or do other "re-sellers" get better deals? I see deals return qantas 700 between dates x and y but when i try those on qantas site i cant seem to get those rates.

thank you for your helpful input.
Just like most of your other posts on here.

      • that's very negative.

  • Not sure why you're not seeing sales prices. Check the dates here to make sure they're within the sales periods.

Flights just before Christmas are always going to be pretty expensive. Try departing on the 13th and returning on the 9th - it's 1065 per person return.

OP - why are tickets to Japan during peak time so expensive?

Out of curiosity, why are you limiting yourself to Qantas ?

To be explicit with what altomic is saying:
      - peak times have costlier flights
      - premium (at least in their ticket price) airlines charge higher ticket prices.

Consider vacationing at a different time of year, consider other airlines, including options like budget air carriers with stop overs in KL or SG.

When I went to Japan, flights were $550 return. But that was in October and a Jetstar sale (purchased during an April sale, I just looked it up).

      • I’m going in September for $327.

  • is there any secret?

    Yes, but it's a secret!

Try skyscanner.com.au for other airlines too. Qantas is far from the cheapest!

There's no way to accurately predict the Qantas sales. Those dates are peak period so there aren't many sales. Have your credit card, dates and everything ready - as soon as a sale pops up, book straightaway.

You've limited your airline and your date range, yet you want a bargain…. I dont think you understand how this works.

    hahahahahahhahahahahahaha

Seriously? You want cheap flights on a full service airline, only days before xmas.

    Oh please.

      please oh.

  • Maybe redeem FF points if the dates are set?

Poor value, but better than $1800 fares!

  • For Syd/Bris Qantas only had 1 sale for dec2017/jan2018 and the sale was around august 2017 I think from memory.
Jetstar did not run a sale for the period, periods before and after instead.
I went to Japan Dec 17 so was keeping an eye out throughout 2017
I suspect it will be the same this year.

  • qantas has sale atm, forgot what periods but i'm sure it'll exclude the peak over xmas
current price is around 7xx return which i think is pretty decent (can't compare to jetstar prices though)

    ana is 800 return

alternative is to use your FF points and pay taxes during that time, which will minimise the actual cash you have to fork out (but not the best use of points)

You've chosen the most expensive time to travel. You will not find sale fares at that time.

  • we booked 21st to jan 5th, it's $1k pp with jap airline

  • As other's have said, it's the most busiest time of the year so there aren't going to be any bargains.

    1. Japanese often return to their home/hometown during the new year periods, so days leading up to New years, all flights inbound will pretty much be booked out.

    2. For an Aussie, that's when School holidays are. so on an Aussie's point of view, That will be the same time they plan on traveling to Japan as well.

If you really want to get a bargain, then you'll need to compromise on either, date, location or airline.
