Home/Contents Insurance Query

Currently insured with TIO. I had a mains burst in my house recently. It flooded the house in about 2-3cm of water. The bloke handling our insurance said any furniture beyond repair can be replaced. My 3 bed frames have been clearly water damaged but hey still hold the frame up. The bottoms are bit swollen and have visible splits. I've got removals coming in to dismantle the frames. Do I hold off or continue with the plan. Any suggestions?

do you want new bed frames or not?
why dont you ask your insurer?

    • Of course I do. The missus has been bugging me for a while to update our frame, so the burst main couldve been a blessing in disguise. My problem is that the bed frames still do their job (for now). But they are clearly damaged (cracks and swelling) and don't know the lasting effect water damaged has on furniture over time. I'm going to confirm it with him tomorrow. You see the bloke works in Brisbane and I live in Darwin I cant really ask him to come over and have a look. I was away on business when it happened and he has flown back since then.

        better fly back ASAP.
please don't ask for flight deals.

Seriously, I'm really starting to question people's ability to think for themselves…

  • Take a picture of the damage and call your insurer today
Do you have tiles or carpet? what about the cabinetry?
