Best Split System AC for < $900?

Hello all,

I'm looking to buy a split system AC as everything else I've tried just hasn't worked out. I've read some forum posts on here and noticed brands like Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Daikin are always recommended, but I thought I'd ask for some recommendations to fit into my <$900 budget. I've chosen a few from The Good Guys and just looking at the specs they're all rather similar, but I thought I'd get a few more opinions and maybe other recommendations and guidance in buying one. Keep in mind the <$900 is obviously not including the installation, but while on that topic of installation, would it be better to go to and installer for an AC or getting one from TGG just fine as well? What pricing should I expect from an installer? Where I'm planning on playing the AC is right next to a window which has roofing under it, so access should be easy, if that helps estimate anything.

So far I've looked at these;

Mitsubishi SETSRK20ZMA-S

Mitsubishi SETDXK06ZSA-W

Kelvinator KSV35HRG

These are just a few that I picked out and seemed to have comparable specs but again, I'm not too sure what is good and what isn't, so would like recommendations.

  • Mitsubishi's are good, as are Panasonic. Can't go too wrong with the couple of mitsies you've listed.
    If it's just a back to back install, you'll be looking around $600 or so I'd suggest depending who you go with, just a ball park.
    Just make sure the room you're trying to heat/cool is the right size for the air cons you've listed.

    • Right size as in small enough for it to cool the entire room? Should be no issues there, small room as I said. Cheers.

      • Yeah, making sure it's not undersized for the room. Don't see anything about the size of the room in your post?

          Ah, must've deleted it when I was writing. Anyways, cheers for the help.

    +1 for Mitsubishi.

  • I've got two Mitsubishi's and 2 Toshiba's in my house. The Mitsubishi's are quieter and keep a consistent temperature, the Toshiba's are poor in comparison noisy and crapping out on very hot days. I'm assuming they are all a few years old as I bought the house in 2015.

    • Yeah I've heard good things about Mitsubishis. Right one I've got two gree brand ones and ones still going strong but never gets used and the other gets used frequently and already feels like it's lost a lot of power when blowing cold air.
