Want to Buy 40-42" New LCD TV with Matte Screen to Donate to Local Inner Sydney School.

We are looking to buy ASAP a new 40 - 42" (preferably Full) HD TV with a 2 year warranty to donate to a local Inner Sydney School with holiday care facilities. Their current ancient analogue CRT screen has gone to the Big Powerpoint in the Sky.

Because it's going in a classroom with lots of windows it MUST BE an LCD with a Non-Gloss, Matte Screen.

We are funding this donation ourselves and have raised about $450. Obviously the big names are out of our league but we want to find the best set we can afford.

We're watching OzBargain posts but please keep us in mind if you come across a deal you think might suit.

Cheers Horizon.

  • Best of luck, i'm sure something will popup soon enough.

I'd also consider things like input and its use. I.e. alot of models here will have HDMI inputs and may be 3d compliant. Getting a discontinued line for 42" tv that ISNT 3d complaint would be quite viable. Also look at the devices that you're plugging in. If its an old dvd player, then you won't need the latest connections (unless you want it to be future proof) etc etc. anyway.

    • You're right of course.

They have an old donated DVD Player (currently useless) but our next project after the TV will be a new upscaling cheapie DVD player with HDMI.

      • also consider DVI, if the TV has DVI ports, and the DVD player is DVI, you might save money overall.

Obviously there isnt a point if DVI dvd players are more expensive. :)

        but yeah, food for thought

  • Until you find a LCD alternative, big screen CRT's are easy to come by and dirt cheap!

The Vizio brand in the USA apparently got rave reviews for its most recent model with matte screen.

Shipping cost would make it unviable to import, but if you could find the local equivalent… Kogan maybe?

    • "The 42-inch…can be found on Amazon for a little under $US1100…"

While their nominal price preclude these for consideration, various locally available brands do regularly pop on & off of the cheapie radar.

As they are often only available for a day or a few hours at least, the trick is to get a quick heads-up when they appear.

  • If you can stretch the budget a little this looks nice, saw one at a DSE the other day:

    • It's a fair bit more than we have.

This one might have been OK but I think it has a gloss screen:
