Whilst im heading to the world cup i am hoping it works in Russia ill also be hitting up Croatia and Sweden and wondering if anyone has used the card in those nations? or is it only accepted in the countries the exchange is shown?

thanks in advance

As long as the ATM is on the relevant network, MC/Maestro now, Visa/Electron previously, you can use it. Any extra charges depend on the ATM provider.

    • What about like EFPOS would that work?

I used the charged in Fiji without issue so im assuming it should?

You can use it as an ATM card or a debit card.

  • You need to look at the Mastercard site, not Citibank.

There you will find acceptance from AFGHANISTAN AFGHANI to ZAMBIAN KWACHA.

  • thanks guys this has helpped i think ill be alright

  • you'll be better off with ING. it's not too late to sign up.

    FREE ATM FEE.

    • Citi bank has free atm fees too?

i have both but i was always under the impression Citi bank had the best card

Do you think the ING every day if better whats the difference?

      • ING refunds any ATM fees while Citi is fee free with Citi and some banks. However ING has strings to be able to avail oneself of the offer.

        • Yeah i was just having a read i dont understand the 5 non-cash purchases?

          @Pastry: Excludes cash out transactions.

        • @greenpossum: i might end up taking both

        • @Pastry: You should always have a backup card anyway. Don't forget to let ING know via your online account that you'll be away.

        • @greenpossum: BTW you should also do this with Citibank (let them know you are away)

@RockyRaccoon: The last time I tried I read a page that said it wasn't necessary. It seems they have confidence in their anti fraud measures. I've also noticed that their app reads my location when I fire it up.

  • I was looking at the title of this post and wasn't sure if you were confused.

So Citi bank plus is NOT a "travel" card. i.e. a card that lets you convert money to a desired currency ahead of spending and using that money while paying.
It's a simple Visa/Master debit card (depends on when your card was issued). Currency conversion happens at the point of sale and the bank does not charge a conversion fee. So the rate you get is the rate nominated by the Payment processor network on the date.

    • isnt the rate set by the rates on the Master card exchange website?

That is a historic rate. Rates are not set in advance.

  • I've used it in all of those countries, albeit 4 years ago. I wouldn't have no concern taking it over now though.

To avoid a fee charged by the ATM, use the list posted above by bonez to find out which banks are free, or simply decline the transaction when it tells you you will be charged.

In foreign language countries, ATMs either automatically come up in English or ask you to choose what language to transact in, so in terms of avoiding the ATM fee, you won't be confused by foreign languages.

I found ATMs in all three countries that didn't charge a fee, with minimal hassle. I refuse to pay a fee!

  • On a recent trip to bali i found that i could only use my citibank mastercard debit to withdraw cash from Maybank atms. Every other bank wouldn't let me. I never had this trouble when it was citibank visa debit.
