Update 17/12: Deal is over. VF has run out of stock. Congrats and Merry Christmas to those who scored! :)

<del>MOD: According to users on pg5, the deal has been reinstated.</del>

<del>Update: Deal is finished. Repayment is now back to $30. :( Good luck to those who have ordered, though!</del>

OK, per request from the other HTC Legend thread…

If you’re a member of one of the motoring clubs (NRMA, RACV, etc), you
might want to check out Vodafone. They currently have the HTC Legend for $0 repayment on their 12-month $29 cap.

Navigate to the link below:

http://store.vodafone.com.au/handset-htc-legend.aspx?company…

Then select '12 month'.

By my calculation, your min cost over 12 months should be (after 10% discount and 3 months free access):

$29 * 10% off * 9 months = $234.9

(plus, possibly, $84 moneybackco cashback for those who managed)

Which is outstanding value for a pocketable Android 2.2 phone with such strong specs. And it comes with a cap with 200mb data!

Be warned, though, that Voda’s customer service (or the lack of it, really) is shocking! Have a look at discussions on whirlpool!

  • Can we get them UNLOCKED straight away or do we have to wait for 6 months or so?

    • I'd like to know this too. I just want the handset, and for a different network.

    • me too?

  • signed up and waiting.. cheers op.

  • Signed up around an hour ago…

    15/12/2010 01:35 PM Order Incomplete
15/12/2010 01:42 PM Order being processed

Anyone who signed up today got past this stage ?

    • nope. 4 hours past and still being processed, make me wonder what is processing my application.

      • Maybe processed means they're getting the phone and stuff ready for shipping? and wont update till it gets shipped off the next day?

        • no it means you havent passed ur credit checks as yet

  • perfect deal. my contract with optus ends in 2 days. Applied.

    Signed up.

    Processed.

    THANKS SO MUCH

    • +11

lol in an android thread. +1 for bravery

  • I'm going to sign up to this tonight before Voda changes it. Thanks to the OP for posting this!

  • I can get to this deal via the RACWA site, so those in WA shouldnt have a problem (they are part of the SYC&S scheme.)

Signed up just before 10am Perth time and this is where my order is at.

    damn links are dead >_<

    • Still working fine for me (checked after you posted this comment).

    • I can still get to it…

    • I'm already with 3 but my contract finished 2 months ago. Have been happy with it AND I do a lot of work outside of the metro area in the mining sector. Now the Vodafone / 3 network is one I have the benefit of both networks.

  • Great deal - thanks! Only yesterday I was in the store thinking $29 per month @ 24 month contract not bad and thinking 'when will they bring this out on 12 month contract'. So today I get that AND 3 months free AND 10% off!!

  • +1

Is it possible to get a contract as a student? I have no difficulty paying the required amount, just no employment.

    • it does ask for name and phone…

      • Yes, but does anyone know whether they are lenient with students or is anyone here a student with a contract?

  • Is the contract started when you activate the phone? I'm about to go on holiday and don't want to start the contract till mid Jan next year.

  • it is definitely a typo. if this is real, how do they sell other plans such as $29 24 month and $49 12 month???

    • people that want this phone but spend more than the $29 cap allows would go for a higher cap.

  • thanks for posting. I'm also going to put down my Amex card in order to get the Amex membership rewards 10,000 bonus points. http://vodafone.com.au/personal/plans/amex-offer/index.htm

  • thanks OP, I need a new phone, using a borrowed one at the moment.

  • $29 per month, handset fee is 0, $49 per month, handset fee is $20.
$69 per month, handset fee is $10. this is not logical.

    • -3

lol if mistake we have class action!!!

      haha!

  • everyone can go crazy on this deal, but it wont get honoured.

  • called Voda, they said "the price is not correct - not meant to be free on $29"

    • Yer, I've signed up but I'd say there is zero chance of this deal being honoured.

      • +3

why do people feel the need to call up? obviously its a mistake, more of a chance of them honouring it when there is less attention

  • They've updated the site.

    • Still looks the same to me

      • Woops, my mistake, navigated to the store manually and couldn't find offer. Link works.

  • I'm in WA
just ordered 2 using the link above
no mention of RAC member details at all
got the mobile the plan and the 700mb for $30 a month with the 3 month free bonus

    sweet!

  • Hey OP (yjm) - did you manage to purchase / receive phone prior to posting deal?

    • I have no need for a 3nd handset. I have two phones at the moment, a Desire HD and a BB9700.

  • Curious as to whether everyone else got a 'black' handset? Is this the phantom black model or is it just some weird naming convention for their silver model? :P

    • it has a black plastic backing

I would say any deal that makes OZBers crazy is very likely to be a genuine mistake.

  • seems like $30.00p/m handset payments on top of 29 dollar cap

    • not for the t&c's I signed up for. $0 upfront, no ongoing costs.

Was there anything about errors or can we take them to the ombudsman if they cancel the order?

      • None of us has past the credit check, so I guess we are still out of contract, and they might do whatever they want since they have realised this problem.

    • You haven't accessed that through the link provided..

I agree that this deal is likely to be cancelled cause the minimum monthly spend in the deal is $26.10 over 12 months, with 3 months free..

  • +1

this is gonna be fun, it's def suppose to be $30 handset repayment on the 29cap for 12 months

  • The link I clicked from the OP indicates no $30/mo additional for the headset but upon navigating the Vodafone site myself, it does show the additional $30/mo when selecting the 12 month contract. Almost pulled the trigger but thankful to research a bit before doing so.

    • +1

If you go voda online store there is $30 a month for mobile, if you click auto club mobile phones you end up to the page OP has linked.

  • +2

    Ozbargained.

    Enough said.

  • +3

I ordered one around 5:41pm. I accessed from NRMA's website to order. No additional fee for the headset.

    Here was what I did:

http://www.more4members.com.au/offer/Vodafone.html, then click "Vodafone" , click "find out more " on HTC Legend, then click "12 month"…

  • I dont know, they will send the phone or respect the deal, but it did say :
    26.10 * 12 with 3 months free for 12 months
(Edit: do remember to click 12 months )
I don't know, if they will charge extra 30 dollars plus 26.10 , as it should be, but they have their hands cut with terms ,they gave me and I printed them out.

Lets see in future. keep posting :)

  • Good luck to the people who have ordered. Also how do you even go through moneybackco? you cant copy paste that link.

BTW isnt this only for NRMA? RACQ for example is not part of it?

  • Sorry I'm new to HTC phones, does this have Apps like iphone? and how is it compared to Evo or Desire or 7?

    Thanks

    • Yes.. but the apps are not necessarily the same in fact they're more often different than the same.

    • You can get Angry Bird :)

  • So I ordered one around 4pm, then to find out I selected the 24mth plan instead of the 12mth. So I spend 2 hrs trying to get the order switched to the 12mth. Then to find out by the guy on the phone, that there is an additional $30 per month plus the $29 if you're on the 12mth.

    • maybe they didnt know you were coming from the motor group site.

  • -1

oh should also mention that vodafone get a 'F for FAIL' for customer service.

    • You can edit your comments

  • LOL Voda is going to get even worse rep if they dont honour this….

  • -1

Someone at Vodafone forgot to enter the number 30 in a box somewhere before hitting "OK", that's all this is. This deal will be cancelled shortly and anyone who's placed an order already is highly unlikely to be able to get them to honour it.

    • we'll see about that

    • +1

Geez, what's with all the neg votes for my comment - just trying to save people their time and effort! People who bother with this, are almost certainly wasting their time. See past instances on Ozbargain where obvious typos involving large amounts are involved - not a single time have they ever been honoured.

      • I agree with you.. I'll be happy if it's honoured, but I severely doubt it!

      • +7

You are probably right, but most people are happy to gamble 10 min of their time signing up. To be honest, i think they spend more time following this thread than the actually sign up process IMHO.

        • that's very true lol

        • +6

I've probably spent in total about an hour or two reading this thread and I havent put an order through lol.

  • They won't cancel it. They'll say sold out.

    • lol yea

  • is it worth is to just get the phone? i looked up in ebay, the phone alone is at least $350+

    • there will be a huge dep hit on those phones if this goes through. Also prob have voda branding.

  • I thought there was some law about having to honour the deal.

    • By law, they don't have to honour the deal as there's no formal contract without any exchange of money or signed agreement.

      • +5

They take $1 from your credit card to authenticate the details… oooo.. hahaha. fingers crossed.

  • +4

    I'm taking the plunge!!!

  • I don't know whether to take the deal or not….

    • Same here!
This is very timely though. Was just looking for a phone and almost went for a Galaxy S.
      Might do it anyway.

  • +3

Done!, hopefully they will honor this

  • +1

I really hope it goes through, my dad would love this present

  • +1

Be warned, though, that Voda’s customer service (or the lack of it, really) is shocking! Have a look at discussions on whirlpool!

I signed up for the HTD Desire HD last time but still having trouble to register my number on the web site. Called them and cst couldn't help and the waiting time was so long!!! So be prepare to wait 30-60 mins if you want to join Vodafone.
Good deal just for the phone.

Thank you for choosing to register for Vodafone web services. Registering is simple and should take about three minutes.

** Sorry we are experiencing technical difficulties. Please try again later or call Customer Services on 1 300 30 10 30 for assistance.

  • just noticed

Accessing vodafone through moneyback co, 12 month plan = $29 + $30/month for the phone.
Accessing vodafone direct, 12 month plan = $29 + $0/month for the phone.

    Definetly a glitch… I still want one though….

  • Ordered, lets see what happens now…..

  • Just ordered one. Hopefully the deal will be honoured.

  • I ordered this. I've been wanting a new phone for a while. Now hopefully it will go through :) :)

  • +1

If it looks too good to be true … it probably is.

Still ordered one just in case ;)

  • +1

Just ordered one as well - I noticed though that when you add to order and on that page when you click on info details for $29 cap, the incorrect info comes up i.e. $550 worth of calls, unlimited SMS etc and 1MB of data

    • +1

mine's the same except says 1gb of data

    • +1

Yeah, I see that. It seems like their site is so riddled with errors, I wonder if they have to honour anything?

Is there any previous experiences with Vodafone glitches? Also about to have a go and order one and try to do the Amex thing - not sure if it'll work because the Amex link above gives the plan as $29+$30 /month for 12 months.

  • Hmm so tempting
I dont mind try this and ifvoda doesnt honour and cancel the order,im fine too.

But i will be sad if voda force me to pay $29+30 for 12 months :)
    Any chance this will happen?

    • i dont think they can legally do that
just take screen shots of everything and print everything out to cover all angles.

      • Can they? I reckon they could cancel our order before the contract start, but can they charge more money legally without our agreements?
        =======Edit==========
Err, miss reading just now. Anyway I printed the confirmation page, got email in my mailbox and made a screenshot just now. But like what happened before with Dell, if this is a GENUINE MISTAKE, there's nothing we can do to force them to honor it.

        • Can they simply leave a GENUINE MISTAKE to remain uncorrected indefinitely? Have they been sleeping all along even after presumably receiving unusually large number of orders?

    • Don't know. I used a new C/C to apply for this, ie no other service is binding on this card. If the worth thing happens, I probably would call the C/C company to change the card number first and then negotiate with VF.

  • Gonna be a headaches if your bill turn out no 3 month free and 10% off. You have to ring up until it get sorted and it takes me hours and plenty of phone call. Time consuming but worth the deal I guess.
