Update 17/12: Deal is over. VF has run out of stock. Congrats and Merry Christmas to those who scored! :)

<del>MOD: According to users on pg5, the deal has been reinstated.</del>

<del>Update: Deal is finished. Repayment is now back to $30. :( Good luck to those who have ordered, though!</del>

OK, per request from the other HTC Legend thread…

If you’re a member of one of the motoring clubs (NRMA, RACV, etc), you
might want to check out Vodafone. They currently have the HTC Legend for $0 repayment on their 12-month $29 cap.

Navigate to the link below:

http://store.vodafone.com.au/handset-htc-legend.aspx?company…

Then select '12 month'.

By my calculation, your min cost over 12 months should be (after 10% discount and 3 months free access):

$29 * 10% off * 9 months = $234.9

(plus, possibly, $84 moneybackco cashback for those who managed)

Which is outstanding value for a pocketable Android 2.2 phone with such strong specs. And it comes with a cap with 200mb data!

Be warned, though, that Voda’s customer service (or the lack of it, really) is shocking! Have a look at discussions on whirlpool!

    • same prob here

    • i cannot login mine too. how can i check my data usage then

      • I am having the same issue as well. I have spent 40 mins waiting on the phone to talk to the Indian call centre to be told wait 24 hours and it will be fixed, needless to say after 36 hours the problem was still there. So rather than wait on hold I went in to a Vodafone store to ask them to rectify it only to find that the sales person needs to call Indian and spend 40 mins on hold too.

        Unbelievable!

        • i did the exact same thing. Hope it gets fixed soon though.

        • Finally have access it seems like it took a few days for my ported number to appear on the correct system. However I have noticed that I only have 50MB of included data on my Cap 29 Plan. :(

  • Anybody know how long you can hold off from activating and porting your number across?

I want to port my optus number across but not till Jan (got a bit if credit on my optus phone)

    • as far as i know, you need to port the number when activating the sim… my sim came already activated.

did you enter the number you wish to port from as part of the signup process?

      • No didn't tick the port option when signing up but got the sim card packet which says on the back that my sim card has already been activated.

I must be able to port now still…..hopefully?

        • I think you're out of luck.

i've just been through the same thing trying to get my existing vodafone number assigned to my new contract (i even chose to port the number across)… however they didn't process the porting at the time of activation so i'm stuck with the new number.

i was given the option of sending everything back and ordering again, but i didn't take them up on that

        • +1

I just got this email from them about 10sec ago, looks like I can still port:

Once you receive your SIM card it will already be activated and ready to use but if you a wish to bring across (port) your existing mobile number from a different carrier to Vodafone or from Prepaid to Postpaid, then please call 1555 from any Vodafone Mobile (Free call from any Vodafone Mobile service) or call 1300 101 606 (8am to 8pm weekdays, 9am – 5pm weekends. Charged as a local call) before using your brand new Vodafone SIM so we can complete your port request.  Please note that your existing number will not be transferred, and any services associated with your existing mobile number may still be connected with your other carrier or Prepaid, until your port request is completed.

        • I also requested the port option and received the sim card packet saying it's already been activated.

Although it doesn't tell me anywhere details of my new number. So bit confused, don't want to put in the new sim incase it wont allowed me to port.

        • I couldn't :( I already rang :(

        • +1

Actually you can port your number later… call 1555 and choose the options for account enquiries —> other account enquiry. Then ask to speak with a member of the activations team. They should be able to port you across after the sim card is activated.

    • Same story as mine. I have more than a hundred dollar balance. I was able to transfer only 30 dollars to my other optus sim. Optus has changed the balance transfer from 30 dollars a month to 15 dollars only. So after transfering that on first of january, I will port my no.
Called Vodafone and told them about it. they said, its fine.
I cannot use my balance else where, as I already have an optus landline with all no.s free and VOIP for free international calling :(
Called optus, if I can transfer my balance to another optus prepaid no. They said noooo…..

Edit: Vodafone told me to use the temporary vodafone sim till then. I can port later.

  • As mentioned previously by a poster, tread carefully with this deal. I just rung up in order to clarify my plan details after confirming whether my phone has been shipped or not.

I was informed that the plan I was on did include the free 3 months and additional 10% off but I was to pay a $20 handset repayment fee on top. I then explained that this was not as advertised on the website during sign-up but she continually insisted that this was so, regardless of being an auto member. She also suggested to switch me to the 24 month plan in order to remove the handset repayment fee but I continually quoted what was advertised until she placed me on hold and came back to explain it was fine.

I'm not sure exactly how these contracts work as this was my first ever experience but I would definitely suggest ringing up and clarifying the deal with Vodafone. I spoke to an Australian rep and plan to ring again upon receiving the phone to clarify.

    • Why I kept screen dumps and prints outs of the shopping cart when ordering.

I note though that one of the printouts I have of the T&C for the $29 voda cap contract says
      - unlimited standard & international TXT, PXT & video PXT
      - $550 included a month to use on voice calls

I think these two points might be wrong?

      • Looks as if they just took $50 out of my credit card which I assume is $29 cap plus the $20 repayment fee…Did anyone else get this?

        • wouldn't 29 + 20 = $49?

        • Please disregard! Big mistake…my father purchased credit from Virgin and I misread…my bad.

      • Anyone got clarification on the actual cap we all got put on and the pricing/inclusions?

  • -1

I have got the same issues as a few other posters, obviously with xmas rush they havnt got enough couriers to deliver all the parcels and mine clearly got sent back to warehouse at tullamarine, I ring AAE and they tell me that it wont be dispatched again till tomorrow even though it was sent back yesterday.. poor form by AAE.
How can you Sandgroper's get your phone before me on the Eastern seaboard? grr :P

  • Phone received yesterday.

Didn't have any details of my new number or anything. It said on the sim card that it was already activated but it wasn't.

Called them up and was redirected around, a guy asked for a VS number, not an ES. He added me to his computer and asked me i needed to provided my licence number and another form of identification. Then he said that he was ready to activate my sim and would be put on hold. Got directed to another line and was told i was in a queue for 40mins. Hung up and tried to see if there was a way to activate online. Choose the "activate a prepaid sim" but required my mobile number to proceed. Gave up. Just wanted the phone anyway.

Received an email today with my mobile number. Called the 1300 number to activate. Took 5mins. Sim card operational.

Experience with vodafone rating. 1/10. Hopefully no hiccups with their billing. Not keen to wait to speak to someone.

  • Wow, this htc is totally sweet, well worth the troubles. thanks op! perfect gift for parents.

  • Damn looks like HTC dosent pick up adhoc wifi spots, my jokispot dosent come up :(

  • Got mine today (Perth) =D It worked right out of the box (I didn't port my number). I couldn't see the number written anywhere, figured it out by ringing another phone!

Edit: I only ordered last Friday so am impressed!

  • Craig3426,
Not sure if you went through the following website:
    http://store.vodafone.com.au/order-tracking.aspx

When you receive AAE's consignment number go to:
    https://trackandtrace.aae.com.au/

    • Tried to enter my order number and it say's I have an invalid order number.
My order number is in the following format:
      VF*********
It doesn't give me enough space to enter all the digits:

      • Vf? Not "es-w" ?!

      • The website I gave is specific to order numbers starting with ES-W. The following seems relevant to your requirement (which you might have already tried):
        https://shop.vodafone.com.au/order-status-login

        • I've got no idea why order no. starts with VF. Maybe because I'm on a 24mth contract instead of a 12mth?
The VF tracking site is really crappy compared to the ES-W you guy's posted.

BTW: Ordered the Trophy on the $49 cap today at 11AM.
At 12.30 I recieved an E-mail saying the credit check was successful.
Anyone had any experience with the delivery speed of the online store, what do you reckon my chances are of having it delievered before christmas? Im on the Centrl Coast of NSW.

  • Got the phone today, awesome deal :)

Now which MicroSD card should i get? i want a good 16 GB card, anyone can recommend a good deal ?

    • +1

The cheapest deals for SanDisk 16GB are from shoppingsquare (right now sold out but more expected soon) and crazysales. Although these are Class 2, the performance is said to be close to that of Class 4/6:
      http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1468705#r…
You could try your luck at OW for pricebeat.

Ideally one should use a 32GB card to utlise the full capacity without having to mess around with installed applications while changing cards in future. However 32GB cards are presently very expensive, the cheapest being around $100 from crazysale. For those who want to start with cheaper lower-capacity cards, SanDisk 8GB Class 4 from crazysales for $16 delivered also seems attractive. I have no idea if any of these are fakes though.

      • Thanks heaps for the info, it's crazy how can class 2 outperform class 4, I read the intense debate here on ozbargain

        http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/31837

and i ended up getting that Kinsgton 16GB class 4 (comes up to $34,decent price), i don't care too much about speed as long as i can shoot video and save stuff on the phone without lagging

        • Class only specifies the minimum speed so the actual speed could be much higher in one and just marginally higher in the other bringing about such apparent anomalies.

Crazysales price is $35.87 delivered. Where did you get it for $34?

  • I got first bill. $0. But bill cycle is 17 dec to 18 dec. I have not received phone at that time. Anyone one on same boat?

    • i am, hopefully phone gets delivered today and that bill was a "test bill"

      • I also got my first bill $0 and same billing cycle.

I have received my phone though

  • Hey for anyone porting from 3 to Vodafone:

I used the 1555 service about 48 hours ago to start the automated porting procedure supplying existing 3 phone phone number, along with new 20 digit sim number. It states it could take up to 24 hours maximum in the recorded message to perform this.

Well…mine didnt port. So I called them this morning using the 1300 101 606 number… and held down the 0 key for a few times before getting transferred to an operator.

A very nice Indian gentleman stated there was an error with the porting due to an apparent overloading of porting requests. He manually triggered a porting request for me.

    • That's interesting. I am in the same boat and initiated the porting via 1555 yesterday around lunchtime. 24 hours is up in a few hours and it hasn't happened yet. If it doesn't I will do the same.

      • guys just ring up and port your number over
spoke to a guy in Mumbai who said its free for 3 customers to port their number over to vodafone, even if they are on a existing contract
he said it would take 3 hours but it was done in 1 hour

  • I thought it come with 200 MB of data right?
In my account it's displaying as 50 MB only. anyone else have the same issue?

  • Vodafone has better receiption than Virgin !!!!

    • Yes, because they use optus network.

    • Not in my experience - I've found Vodafone horrendous in the areas my Optus works fine in.

  • Vodafone obviously works in strange ways. I just bought one phone but received four $0 bills , each with different account and invoice number. Only the second bill has my correct account number but all the bills have my correct name and address. All are dated prior to the activation date so they are obviously not monthly bills but perhaps for any outstanding balance from the date of contract. The bills have a tag attached saying “Due date 11 Jan 2011” but when I download them the tag reads as “Do Not Pay” while the same due date is shown at another location on the bill. Did anyone else receive any bill with a wrong account number?

    • Yes, I've received an additional $0 bill which has a different account no from the one associated with the phone. Three extra accounts would be a bit concerning! I just rang VF about my extra bill and was told they were looking into it and would get back to me…

      • Me too. Please let us know what the extra bills are about, when you find out.

        • They say it is an error which will be corrected and next month we should get just one bill. If not we have to spend another hour with them to set it right. They are also working on "invalid mobile number" error when we try to register for My Vodafone and say it should be fine by Tuesday.

        • It's good that they are working on fixing the issue with logging into my vodafone, I'm glad I'm not the only one who cant. I really want to use it :/

        • Anyone wanting to register for My Vodafone can do so now. Vodafone has also fixed my multiple billing issue as evident from online viewing of my bills after registration. Well done Vodafone! Keep it up!!!

Edit: When I go to "Spend and entitlements" after logging into My Vodafone, the following is displayed:
          Cap $29 12 Mth
Domestic Data: X of 300.0 MB remaining
Free GPRS Bubdle: X of 50.0 MB remaining
Anytime Dollar bundles: X of $180.00 remaining

Does not specificaly mention about 10% Off and 3 Months Free but I think it is understood as we have those details in the e-mails received from Vodafone. Also, the monthly billing period seems to start few days before delivery/activation, which can probably be fixed by talking to them but I will peobably not bother about it. Howoever, total free quota seems to be 300+50MB, which is good.

  • Just got the phone this morning! Big thanks to the OP for this excellent deal. Merry Xmas and a happy, safe new year!

  • people…. doest below means i passed the credit check ? so jealous to all of you who got the phone!

    THANK U OP!

  • Anyone who got the $4 extra 700 MB of data get it to show up in there myvodafone usage page?

Looks like they haven't registered it and I can't bear to call them again.

Edit: Also, the 200 MB of included data looks like it comes as 50 MB of free GPRS + 150 MB of data, yes? Despite this page which myvodafone takes me to when I click plan details: http://vodafone.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3409

    • Yeah I got the exact same thing. I can't find any mention of this distinction between the two types of data on the cap plan though. What is the 150MB of data anyway? I have used 3g a few times and it has come out of the 50MB. I am a bit of a noob when it comes to phone internet :(

Voda ask (100 points sent) then ask (payslip sent) what they want from me next?

  • Glad I didn't get this deal for phone usage, if this is an example of actual call costs:

Date Time Call Type Number Called Call Duration Period Call Charge Charged Amount
    22/12/2010 15:29:50 V2O 0414xxxxxx 00:00:02 All Day $1.14 $0.00

Lucky this test call was included in the $29!

PS - just noticed in my 'Spend and Entitlements' section, it doesn't show the extra 700MB I signed up for - is this normal?

    • +2

The test call was actually included in the $180 call credit you have… not the $29 call credit.

You should call Vodafone and get them to add the $4/month data to your phone plan. It should show up in my vodafone.

  • Got my first bill and have been charged the correct access fee ie $26.10 but no free access on months 1,2, &3 as mentioned.

    • Did u ring VF?

  • i wonder maybe some1 should create a new thread on forum about this billing system to make sure we all get 3 months free !

  • "customers who signed up with Vodafone over the last three years may be entitled to compensation if they were misled into signing contracts or if Vodafone didn't live up to its end of the bargain"

  • hello all,
any one know if it is possible to delay the porting . i still have contract with THREE till feb, so can i activate my voda now then on feb do the porting ? obviously, i want to keep my THREE number..
    thanks

    • lol, i saw and replied ur comment on whirlpool too.
I am also porting my no. from optus to vodafone on 3rd of jan and the rep at vodafone said, its fine.
I recon you to let them know, what you want to do. Get a note in your account.
Do let us know, what happened?

  • hi. just called them few mins ago (coz i just got my phone today!)
the lady said it is possible. ANYTIME i want to port, just call them again.

bit strange.. anyone know this is possible/ normal procedure?

  • any one want to sell me their's?

    I really want one

    • Yep - didn't realise this wasn't NextG compliant before I bought it. Used it for about 3 hours all up. Make me an offer ryangus at gmail dot com.

    • hello
yes im putting this on ebay. can take it out tho.
please contact me at, click my username, there is a 'contact' button on the top right side. thanks

    • not for $270 :)

    • He wants to buy it for $270:
      http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/37104

A bit too low :) some lucky bastards sold their HTC Legend for $425 on ebay just a week ago.

      • Well as i type now it has $295 bid on ebay. Still 20hrs togo.
Definitely will go over $330 i say.

        • How much did it sell for at the end?

My MoneyBack for this deal has been canceled. Still a good deal without money back though.

    • Mine too. Had 2x $84 moneyback each handset, damn :)

  • Anyone else sign up using their AMEX and get 10,000 bonus points on this?

  • Got my first bill for my plan $70! There are two errors:1.They added 1GB data to my plan, which i did not order and wasn't shown anywhere in my order or my plan info online; 2. It is supposed to be three months free, but they start charging without giving me the free access. I am going to email and see whether can avoid queuing up in the call centre.

    • Did you have the 10% off as well? I just got my first bill but it didn't have 10% off the plan.

      • It seems i got the 10% discount. $70 is for two months: about $26 for the mobile plan + $9 something for the 1 GB data.

  • me too! first bill is $11.51 i dont know what is it, no detail available yet, but arent we supposed to get free 3 months ??

After a complaint to VF and then the TIO about very poor data services, I've had my issue resolved. Basically, I can now end my contract at any time without fee, and either give the phone back to VF and walk away, or pay out a nominal fee of $175 for the phone and walk away.

This was to my satisfacation - the phone is worth $175, but the service VF did/do supply is rubbish in my location.

Despite this, the phone can't run NextG so doesn't really suit my needs anyway (my mistake, should have checked first), and doesn't run Flash which I require to run some business intelligence demos for work.

So, if I keep the phone, but ditch VF, I'll probably sell the phone. Very angry at myself for putting a tiny scratch on the screen just this morning, thus lowering the resale value.

Ultimately, unless someone wants to pay at least the $175, I'll hand it back in and walk away.

    • I'm happy to pay you $175 mate. I've already messaged you. Email me back if interested.

  • Same issue with Vodafone's billing:

    • 16th Jan (last day of the contract month), balance was around $120 in credit and $0 owning.

    • 17th Jan (first day of the contract month), the balance was $0 credit and $0 owning - expected $180 credit and $0 owning. WTF??

    • 18th Jan, check balance again and it was $0 credit but with $68.77 owning !!!!

The balance was via SMS. I was not able to log into My Vodafone account till today. The info in the account saying my usage last bill was $0 (as expected) , but owning them $68.77.

Rang support - lucky only onhold for 10 minutes or so - and assured by the girl that it was a computer error (she didn't know why or how they came up with that $68.77). She said they going thru an upgrade and everything should be OK in 3-4 days.

    • same problem here. rang customer service and it was shocking. noone can help and i got transferred everywhere. still waiting for someone able to help after 1 hour on the phone

      • Me too. Owing $47.xx. But still can't see the bill detail.

        • I am owing $47.98 … funny, I haven't even used the phone for anything that would even incur a charge.

  • They are charging for the month just gone (part month pro rata) plus a month in advance.

But yeah, aren't we supposed to get 3 months free?

  • I got bill detail and had a look. it's nothing wrong with their calculation, but just haven't got free monthly fee.
    my bill is:
    22-Dec to 18-Jan $21.43 (got 10%off, excluding GST)
    19-Jan to 18-Feb $23.72 (got 10%off, excluding GST)
Total New Charges $49.67 (include GST)
I gonna ring up to ask about three monthly free access.

    • I just rang vodafone 2 mins ago. They say 3 month access free only apply for the 4th 5th and 6th.

Pity that the offer said "First 3 months free." One wonders how they translate that into 4th, 5th and 6th.

I can't believe how bad their service is. I just got my bill, and aside from the same overcharging mentioned above, they've also charged a 'CTN fee blah blah' which wasn't explained. Thanks to searching elsewhere, I found they've also made another mistake by charging for their previous mistake of not transferring the prepaid number I gave them. That took about a week to get rectified, bouncing between different departments and running a heap of tests for some other mistake they made (never explained, but my phone had a 3rd number connected to it). I've spent about 8 hours on the phone and in store so far unsuccessfully trying to get things set up the way they made the offer and were instructed to… Now I'm not sure how much more time I'll need to spend trying to sort their bill mistakes out.

Maybe I should send them a bill for all the time I've wasted. I just can't believe how long everything takes with them, as they continually do something they weren't told to do, and never said they would do (e.g. the change in offer above from first three months into something else. I can imagine if you waited until month 4 you would still be charged…)
