  • That's $63.75 per person if you buy two phones on the $85 plan (which does not have phone repayments). Not too bad, if you happen to need 2.

    • +2

I think that is for leasing.

      • +12

        Say no to leasing ….

      • +10

Crap, you're right. My bad. I clicked on plans, and forgot there is such a stupid thing as leasing.

  • Current prices are $79/mth for 64G version. $89 for 256G version.
    S9+ is $84 and $94 respectively.
    (Take 10% off for students)

    • would this be a further 10% off after the 50% plan discount?

      • Prices off website so not including 10% Unidays discount

For the people who cant do maths

    Two x Samsung S9 64gb on $85 Plan 14GB 24m contract (own phone)

    $85 plan + $10 phone repayment + $42.5 (50% plan) + $10 phone repayment / 2 = $73.75 per month per device

    • thanks.

Not bad if you are one of those people that need the latest and greatest and have a partner to go in with.

      • nah, contracts always bad. 24m? worse.

I disagree. sometimes it can be cheaper than buying the phone outright and paying a sim only plan.

Considering the premium price these will be on launch $74 for a phone plan isnt the worst deal.

being a true ozbargainer though, people around here would just wait for 6 months and get it either for $800 ish or on a $59 PM plan

        • @mavis30551:

you're right. i'm currently on a $40 BYO Phone Sim Only plan which has 10GB and same everything else, but without Optus Sport. i swapped to this on a s9+ 256gb for $110/mth and subtracting the 2 x $40 i spend on the sim only plan off the monthly cost, I worked out that each phone is about $300 under release price. And I get Optus Sport as part of the subscription now as well.

    • Yup: effectively $75/month for S9s and $85/month for S9+s.

Not bad for an opening price.

Haha yeh I have the same problem at the moment, trying to convince her to ditch Apple…

    "Get 2 Samsung Galaxy S9/+"

should read: "Get ripped off twice by Samsung"

    • how is samsung ripping you off? Yes, samsungs don't hold their value and probably drop by 20-30% within 2months but this optus combo is decent.

    • +2

if you're this angry about Samsung, does that make you even more aaaaaangrier at Apple? Lol

  • Or wait a couple months when these drop to sub $700. The rate these new phones be releasing, surely there isn't always that many people lining up to buy and with the rise in cheaper alternatives that are still commendable, makes buying these $1000 twitter machines less worth it. Now you'll excuse me while I go create a new animoji message with my iPhone X.

haven't you heard? S9/+ has copied apple and can do these too!

      • But doesn't come with the Apple logo bruh.

The Samsung s8 is $999 RRP (official) and was $1199 at release. I think it’s a bit much to think they will be sub $700 in a couple months. It’s taken a year for the s8 to drop $200 RRP

      • Just keep checking ozBargain for deals. Someone will find a way, it's inevitable.

I was SO excited when I saw this deal as a headline….when I went through the plans however and started doing the numbers, my excitement kind of subsided pretty quickly because I couldn't seem to find a deal that would really make me feel like I got a ripper.

Firstly, the 1st Optus rep I spoke to on chat told me they had to be 2 new services. This is not true. The second one told me 1 of the 2 services could be an upgrade so long as the other 1 is a new service. This same rep then told me the 50% off is taken off the cheaper plan. I believe this to be true however I had an Optus store a few metres from my office and thought I'd pop in to chat to some local staff who may be able to explain better. However, this Optus staffer in store told me that the discount only applied if you signed both plans up to the $85 My Plan plus.

Sighhhhhhhhhhhhh…….too much uncertainty and also something to note folks - the T&C's say that if you cancel one of the 2 services, the discount on the other stops then and there. Probably figured as much but just make sure you know that if you're someone who upgrades your plan each year like me :)

    • I can clear this up.

One service can be a re-contract and one has to be new correct. The 50% discount is applied to the plan fees only and not handset repayments. It's valid for any plan but the best bang for buck price point is the $85 plan as it's the cheapest $0 handset fee plan. If that meets your needs then I would go for it.

  • Wait for a better deal, jump on a month to month for the short term.

The Mrs was thinking about getting a new phone 'cause she's out of contract. Over 1 month ago someone from Vodafone called up and convinced her to re-contract for 12 months with a little bit more data. I said that she shouldn't have done that and it wasn't a good deal. Now I'm even more annoyed.

  • I think the only way those contracted vodafone / optus / telstra deals are worth it these days, when comparing to Kogan and co, is if you are with the carrier and they cancel the current contract for free to get you into a new one 4-6 months before, the monthly fees multiplied by 18 - 20 month for the premium service and handset can be close to being ozbargain worthy deals.

  • FYI…. Optus have just messed around with the pricing on these…. they are now $5 higher repayment on the handsets

  • The plans have been readjusted to yesterday mornings pricing! $5 less on the handset repayments! :)

Here are the monthly prices per service with the S9+ 64gb (if getting 2 of the same plan) as of 2/3/18:

    $89 Plan = $77.75 each
    $90 Plan = $73.75 each
    $95 Plan = $73.75 each
    $105 Plan= $80.00 each
    $120 Plan= $90.00 each

Obviously the first 2 nobody would consider, but the top 3 look pretty good.

    • apologies… S9 not +

    • Is my maths off.

      $89 - Phone 1
      $89 - Phone 2 - take 50% off = 44.50
      89 + 44.5 = 133.50
      133.50 / 2 = $66.75 each?

  • Has anyone here successfully "traded-up" with a S8 pre-order? As the S8's come out in April my contract hasn't hit 12 months so they want a $750 device repayment fee if i take up this offer…

    • Why you don't trade up with Samsung? If you phone is still new and you still have box and all, you can trade up to $600. Assuming you have s8 64gb.

      • Didn't know this was an option tbh, but Dad was after a new phone, making the get 2 offer viable. S9 is hardly an upgrade from the s8
