Samsung Galaxy S8 Price Drop?

Now that the S9 release is coming up, what price do you think we will see the S8 drop to?

I'm currently on the S7 and battery life is awful.

How long do you think I should wait before pulling the trigger on an S8?

On plan or buy up front?

Put it away, nobody wants to see your magic ball - or the other one for that matter.

It may drop but not by a lot imo. I think a lot of people are realising that there is no justifiable reason to upgrade to the latest and greatest phones every year and are happy to wait a few model generations to upgrade.

Or maybe go to one of the (asian) Mobile Phone repair spots in the middle of the Shopping Centres.
It should cost $50-$100 to get them to open it up, and swap the battery.

Probably best course of action, because upgrading to a S8 won't net you a better screen, or better performance, or better camera, or better battery life.
The S8 is very similar to the S7 from the inside, its mostly a cosmetic change.
If I was you, I would definitely stick with the S7 with a new battery… and if you still want to upgrade, go for the S9+.
That way if you wait a bit, stocks will become more available, price could hit a little below RRP, any known flaws will become apparent, and you will find out which variant to get (IMX camera vs Isocell)(QSD 845 or E9810)*.

*Early preview shows the Exynos 9810 is much much faster in the very important single-thread floating point benchmark, almost as fast as the iPhone 7, but still slower than the iPhone X. Whereas the QSD 845 is barely 15% faster than the QSD 820-835. However, I the QSD 845 has the fastest GPU right now, even faster than the Nvidia Shield TV. Whereas the E9810 is barely faster than the E8810, and still slower than the iPhone 8's GPU. But how these things interact with the TouchWiz OS, and the resulting battery life remains to be determined.

It's a bit more than $100 and then you'd lose the waterproofing in the S7/Edge. And if you're suggesting going to Samsung to replace the battery, it'll cost more than double that.

        • I dunno, I got an iPhone 6S Plus changed last year for $60… and I don't think the process and costs are that dissimilar.

  • Just buy one now - you wont regret it! - I've sat there with an S4 trying to keep it going and just got the S8+ and I can honestly say my groin region has not stopped tingling at it!

  • Anyone know if there are any s7 battery replacement options from Samsung service centre and cost?

Came here for the "wait til the S10" comments. Am disappointed!

If I were you I would keep checking the ozb product page and maybe subscribe to mobileciti and hope for a deal soon.

  • Eh.. I am still using my S6 and the battery life is fine. I wouldn't mind an upgrade as it can be a bit slow with some apps, but I also hate how they seem to force phones to slow down so you will go out and spend exorbitant amounts of money on a new one. Goes against all my principles. Also I still use the IR blaster, shame they took that away from the recent phones as it comes in handy. The new phones are not enticing at all with their 1k+ prices, all for a slightly faster experience and a better camera, just not worth all that money IMO.

  • My S7 struggles to last the day if I actually use it, but I have a Xiaomi battery pack. If the phone is getting low and I'm not near a wall charger, just plug in to the Xiaomi and it recharges really quickly….

  • I'm looking at upgrading my wife and my S5s as they've just become unusably slow and cosmetically damaged.

Is the general consensus to go to s8 or should we just step back one and go s7?

Anyone know who the cheapest is currently?
