UFC Ripping Me off

Recently I was checking my credit card statement and found 2 charges for UFC fightpass… Problem is i've never subscribed to UFC fightpass.

Emailed UFC and asked them to cancel the subscription and backdate it since a) i never signed up and b) i've never actually used fightpass

Just got the below email

Greetings,

Thank you for your inquiry.

You purchased the UFC 214 PPV event with a complimentary 30 day FIGHT PASS subscription. As your subscription was not cancelled prior to its conclusion, you were enrolled into a paid monthly FIGHT PASS subscription.

Unfortunately we are unable to grant your request for a refund as you are outside the 5-day refund window from the date of the charge.

Your UFC.TV subscription service has been cancelled and the auto renewal was turned off. Your service will continue until 2/28/2018. You will not be billed for this service again unless you resubscribe.

If you have any questions or concerns in the future please let us know.

Best regards,

Do i have any recourse? or do i just have to take this as a lesson learnt.

    Chargeback.

Everyone with the charge back, how about you be a man and suck up your mistakes!

OP signed up for a trial and 'forgot' to cancel, so is getting charged!

      • +4

True but sounds like OP purchased a ticket to an event that came with a free trial that he probably wasn't aware of.

If he signed up for the trial with the intention of using it, things would be different.

UFC seems to be taking advantage of him in this respect.

OP clearly stated he never signed up for the trail. They generously “gave it” to him, but then expects him to cancel when the free period ends.

Imagine buying tickets to any event, let’s call it the footy, and having the league, call it AFL, give you a trail of something you never wanted and and then they charge you for it after a short free period. Should every person that buys tickets to a event be required to check if they have been generously gifted some short trail of something that then charges them?

Yes, dubious and sneaky by the merchant…

      • +1

I misunderstood. I thought the OP didn't purchase any UFC thing at all. If they did the trial, they should pay for it.

      Fightback.

      • +3

UFC def. OP, 1st round submission via guillotine choke.

I believe a charge back is appropriate plus a email to consumer affairs or similar. Clearly this is not good business practice.

    Do i have any recourse?

So did you do this as they claimed?

You purchased the UFC 214 PPV event with a complimentary 30 day FIGHT PASS subscription

    If so then

do i just have to take this as a lesson learnt.

If so, then no recourse as you failed to cancel it as part of the terms.

No different to the 'free' netflix offer, they charge you if you don't cancel!

Did you do a trial or not?

Going by here: https://www.ufc.tv/packages there's a 7 day trial and it's $9.99AUD per month, small lesson

If you never did do the trial then why not do a chargeback then?

    edit:
    Ok double checking here

https://www.ufc.tv/events a PPV event is about $59.99, then assuming you paid for it it came with a 'complimentary' aka free 30 days fightpass

UFC 214 was also all the way back on 29 July 2017 (prob US time) so our 30th July going by : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UFC_214 , which means you could have potentially been charged for 7 months if we skip a 30 day free

perhaps you used the code "stockholm" ? ; https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/309547 the poster warns against providing CC details

It sounds like you are ripping yourself off. You told the UFC they could charge you after the free trial period, so that is exactly what they have done. You can try a credit card chargeback but assuming you actually signed up for the free trial and forgot to cancel, I don't think you should get a refund.

    What's a charge back?

    • +4

When an openent shoots for a takedown and you charge them back with a knee to the head

Damm. As pointed out above UFC 214 was July last year. Just checked my credit card statement and apparently I have 6 charges of 9.99 not just the 2 which i originally thought.

I did not choose a fight pass subscription. It was given to me with the main event which i purchased. I did not want it, i didnt sign up for it, they just gave it to me.

Another thing i've just realised. They haven issued a single receipt for any of these transactions either!!!

    • Great way to stop people cancelling the service, dont issue statements advising that your taking the money

    • +1

Ah well, it's pretty dodgy behaviour from them I reckon.

You should probably make an effort to check your card statement more regularly at the very least.

This is gotta be a new thing. Since when you could go to a concert and be given a foxtel trial subscription for free, becomes an owner responsibility thing to cancel the subscription especially when you didn't sign up for it?

It's crazy concept it should be banned. OP, please chargeback all the 6 charges you have incurred.

What could they do next? Go to a footy and be subscribed automatically to Herald Sun home delivery trial?

complain to the accc, you are 100% entitled to a refund.
