        Consumer grade surge protection won't save your equipment from a lightning strike if that answers your question. You should be protected against "small bumps in the road" however.

        Not the same.

        Overload protection stops you from drawing too much power through the power board, which is possible if you plug in things that are high powered, say a 2400W kettle and a 900W microwave, and have both operating at the same time.

        Surge protection is to protect the equipment you plug in, from harmful spikes on the power line. These could be from nearby lightning strikes, or from a vehicular accident which knocks down a power pole, causing the 3300V or 11000V lines to drop onto the lines that distribute 240V. Note that surge protection is not guaranteed, many power boards that say they are surge protected only do the bare minimum, and also note that even the best boards are unlikely to protect your equipment from a direct lightning strike to the power lines close to your home.

    The reject shop has switched 6 outlet boards for $14.

    I opened mine up to check, its well made despite what the mistral branding may suggest.

      Each outlet has its own switch so you only use the power you need.
      This is what I want, instead of usual ones without a switch.

  Went to purchase this and the salesman told me that these aren't actually Surge Protected and it just says that for no reason. Then proceeded to try to upsell me a Belkin one which was 4 times the price
