  • Absolutely disgusting (at Parramatta anyway), they used to be good like I don't know 8 years ago when they served meat at Randwick?

    • +1

Agreed. Randwick used to have a really good lamb burger. Went shortly after their renovation and didn't notice that they had changed to "plant-based" "meat" and it was terrible. Actually, I noticed, but i just assumed it was some weird way of saying grass fed or something. Never been back.

      • Why does a restaurant based around the philosophy of not consuming animal products market them using various names of popular meats? Shouldn't they be proud of the actual ingredients and not want to compare them in taste to meat?

It's not just this one, but Lord of the Fries and Bodhi too! Not to mention all the packaged products available in supermarkets.

It doesn't make philosophical sense and seems like a pretty shady business practice.

Can confirm the beef tastes awful

    • +2

just checking to make sure you know that its not real beef?

      • +2

yes i know it's not real beef. it's plant-based meat but tastes awful anyway

        • yeah its not for everyone. maybe try their fries with the free $10.

        • +1

          @spin17:
The mushroom burger is very tasty though. As it's at least real mushroom.

Milkshake is too sweet in my opinion.

        • +1

          @spin17:

True, when I had a terrible burger experience at Soul Burger. Their sweet potato fries were awesome.

        • +2

          @citygal:

Maybe yeah order something that was meant to be vegetarian and it might be good, if I was forced to go again maybe I'll try the mushroom or falafel.

  • +1

Thanks OP. Just downloaded the app and that's $20 for free! And finally something in my area.

I didn't know it was soully a vegan place at first but falafels are fine with me. A part of me wants to try the frankenstein creations but the reviews above aren't promising. I don't think I've ever loved a food pretending to be something else so maybe falafel it is.

    • +1

      that's awesome… 2 free lunches.

    • 20 how? The code is for 10 isnt it?

      • +2

You get $10 free credit when you register on the app.

  • plant-based burger joint

That needs to be highlighted with font 50

    • I deliberately added that in for a reason… lol

    • PLANT-BASED BURGER JOINT.

Nah that's nowhere big enough :P

      • +1

It is when you zoom in on your browser.

      • easy… just press ALT F4… goodbye.

  • +1

    Bad reviews online

    • because it actually is… bad.

  • +1

Lots of bad reviews here but my own experience has been that the few people I've taken there that don't usually eat plant based foods thought it was very good. Considering they've opened 2 new stores in the last couple of years - and that the population of local vegans is often not enough to sustain even a single food store in many cases - they must be doing something right.

IMO the mushroom burger is one of the best.

  • +2

I've only had good experiences at the Randwick and Glebe stores over the years… Across about 10 visits between them.

  • Are you allowed to call something 'plant-based chicken/pork/beef' when it is not chicken/beef/pork?

I bought one two years ago, as I assumed it was some fancy way of saying how it was rared, but no it was veggie.

    • +1

If people can call any animal flesh "humane" then IMO it's fair game.

      • Have you no compassion for insects? #abugslifematters

        • +2

Yeah, carmine and shellac and honey and any other intentional insect cruelty is not cool either. To answer your next question:

          a. Insect invaders will be treated like any other invaders. All invaders will be welcomed to leave if safe, else they they will be dealt with appropriately. Eg: humans with baseball bats, insects with thongs.

          b. The best way to mitigate insect deaths in agriculture is to make agriculturists morally considerate of insect death. That means educating and persuading them to take animal interests seriously. If they can't take a mammal's or bird's interests seriously they have no chance of doing the same for insects. In the mean time minimise insect deaths by eating only plant based foods.

  • Just ate here. For one dollar it's worth it would never have paid full price for that. Quite meh

    • Had the falafel? They broke the golden rule of falafels. I know it's a burger joint but there's probably a reason they're normally in balls. A patty deviates from the ideal crisp surface to volume ratio. Maybe it was just meh as well (definitely not "ethnic" enough) but I like my theory.

FYI for $10 burger Mondays, you need to order in store and pay via app (app doesn't show $10 burgers on Mondays)

*Edit Mushroom burger is not bad, but a bit sloppy

  • +2

Yay seems like the credit is monthly. I'm not a vegan but I enjoy their burgers.

Mods, the original code DZQP113 has expired and no longer works, has been replaced by the new code ZBDX994

    • Thanks @leockl. I can't seem to update code so hopefully mod can do that.

Hopefully there's one every month :)

Also doesn't the code work for VIC users?

      • Usually when a code expires like this, a new post would be put up and mods would expire the old post. Not sure why this is not done here..

I don’t think Soul Burger has a store in VIC???
