      When I'm downloading the game it recognises it as Arcade edition.. I am not 100% sure if it is but lets hope so

        Confirm the characters you get by default after it finishes installing, patching, upgrading etc. That will validate if it is "Arcade Edition" with S1/2 characters or not.

      Arcade Edition is a free upgrade for all versions, no season pass required. As it should be too, as it basically just adds a simple arcade mode that should have been in the game from the beginning.

      I'd say Arcade Edition is finally what the game should have been at launch, so this is a great price if you don't already have it. I think Season 1 and 2 character packs are fairly discounted now (under $20 each, adds 6 characters per season), at least they are on the PSN version. Season 3 is still in progress and therefore still stupidly priced, so hold off on that one for now.

        Thanks for the explanation. If we were to purchase the Season pass, does it mean we will be able to get Season 1 & 2 characters? Or is it Season pass for 1 & 2 separately?

          Hold the phone: This page says that buying Arcade Edition gives you the first two seasons of characters out of the box, so yay??? Otherwise, if you buy the original, non-Arcade Edition SFV, then AE is a free upgrade, but without the DLC.

          To answer your question, there are separate season passes for each season. They start off pretty expensive (on PSN, Season 3 is currently $45), but they get discounted heavily after a year (or whenever the next season is ready to start). Eg. On PSN, Season 2 is now $23 and Season 1 is $15.

          Characters can also be unlocked for free using in-game currency (Fight Money/FM), although this can be a really long grind. It's super-easy to get about 3,000 FM per week by just logging in once per week and do the weekly missions (takes about 10 mins), but a single character costs 100,000 FM to unlock. You can also earn a bunch of FM by completing each character's story mode. Finally you get 1,000 FM per level from levelling up each character. (You get XP from pretty much everything, but levelling up takes a lot longer the higher your level.)

          I bought Season 1, and from completing the story mode, each character's individual story scenarios, and weekly missions from time to time, I've been able to unlock all but one character from Season 2 with FM alone. I'll probably just end up buying Season 3 once it drops down to 50% off, and using my earned FM to unlock stages and costumes, etc.

          @Mikeypants: So this price is not the Arcade edition, but the old one that only has the original characters, but is upgradeable with an Arcade mode.. but don't get any extra characters as part of the upgrade?
