Does Anyone Here Work at Bunnings?

I love how they have their spare boxes to take as you please as I use them to post items in but:
1) do employees care if you take some without buying anything?
2) is there a certain day of the week that there's more or less boxes put out or is just pot luck when stock gets put out?

If you work at any of the Bunnings in the South or South-East of Melbourne I'd love to chat with you via PM.

Each Bunnings store will be a little different. Where I work in Western Sydney, we don't mind if you take boxes without buying something. You may take as many as you like. The box bay gets decimated on the weekends and doesn't tend to fill up again until Tuesday.

I need some disposal pallets, the untreated bare wood ones. if I ask someone at bunnings for some would that be something they are happy to give out like boxes?

      • The pallets tend to belong to companies and therefore must be returned to them. It doesn’t hurt to ask though. Call your local Bunnings and ask to be put through to ‘receiving’.

        • the blue chep pallets and red locam ones go back but the bare wood ones are usually disposable. I've not asked but figured if there was a associate on here they might have the answers i seek.

The reason i ask is i acquired pallet racks for my large man cave and little boxes from the front counter need something (like pallets) to sit on.

Our local has had DIY sessions showing how to build stuff with pallets. They have a sign up to ask if you want pallets. Plenty of places will give away pallets, you just need to work out which ones.

        • Went to the bunnings nearby and asked, chick just stared at me
Went to Mitre10 and they said to go around the back and help myself.
          Mighty Helpful, That's Mitre 10.

in what section of bunnings can you get free boxes? i never seen them before …

Near the registers like Franklin's used to do. It's just the empty boxes from the products they sell.

Lady at my local bunnings told me that I have taken enough boxes and that if you intend to use them for moving, there are moving boxes for sale inside And the free boxes were for paying customers

I was actually taking them to build a fortress for my son to play with.

I’m sorry that you met with resistance but I guess the rules are a little different in each store. It is frustrating when a group of people come in and take nearly every usable box and leave nothing for customers. The customers get annoyed and rightly so. That may happen more at your local store and they may have put limits in place. For future reference if you are unsure, speak to the greeter and tell them what you want the boxes for. I’m sure they will be able to use their discretion if it is for a plaything for a child etc even if limits are in place.
