Dispute with Yellow Cab Cab Driver. Filmed Part Way

I really just want to pay a reasonable price. I don't expect to hop into a cab and expect to have to guard against every wrong turn or mistake from the cabbie..

Very frustrating experience. Don't think I'll ever take a cab ever again.

Video - Contains Bad Language

  • Very dodgy that he doesn’t have his Taxi authority card displayed. For this alone you had good reason to question him.

why are you starting arguments with people?

just stop the car, pay the amount, get a reciept, and get out.

Make a complaint to the relevant authorities later

i just watched the whole vid with proper audio because the sub omits words. it does sound like a rude way to speak to a stranger.

  • What’s with the bogan language? Can’t people nowadays have a discussion without it?

Making fun of the driver’s name and insulting him was uncalled-for. Like davo said. It would’ve been a lot easier to pay the fare, get out and make a complaint with the company.

    • Thanks. The discussion started with questioning about the route taken and deteriorated quickly. It didn't start with bogan language but it definitely ended with it. I've deleted the video as that was just continuing the stupidity.

You also this on reddit this morning and everyone thought you were a muppet so you deleted that too.

        • Yes,people make wrong choices in the heat of the moment. It was up for less than 6 hrs.

What an annoying and rude passenger. Sometimes best to let these fares go.

And that's how taxi drivers get away with their ludicrous pricing.
Vote with your feet. (use Uber which they follow Google Maps navigation)

I once had to take a cab home without my usual taxi driver..

The off-the-rank driver decided to chummy up to me and proceed to give himself a $15 tip on top of my usual fare ($55-$65) because I looked like I wasn't sober (casual Friday and I worked late..)
Lucky my work paid for the trip home, but it's about the principle..

Made a complaint through my usual driver as an anonymous passenger, in fear of repercussions. Apparently my usual driver had another passenger with the exact same experience for the dodgy driver. Gave a copy of the taxi receipt to my usual driver to assist with GPS tracking of route and verification of unusually high fare of my daily route.

A few weeks later, dodgy driver got forced to take a week off and $300 course (at their expense)

      • And that's how taxi drivers get away with their ludicrous pricing.

Taxi drivers in Australia are on the lower end of the pay scale.

Lower payscale or not, you shouldn't do something unethical and dishonest like tipping yourself 27%, especially without asking.

        • @cwongtech:

they shouldn't charge a tip without asking. you were tired after a day's work. are you sure the driver didn't ask for a tip?

        • @whooah1979:

          I'm extremely sure.
I saw the meter at $54 (usually $52), somehow he punched in $69 in the machine, which then adds a further 5% on top bringing it to approx $72
Usual fare is $56, with 5% service fee it's $59 normally.

A lot of the taxi drivers recognise the purchasing card my former employer uses and because they know the passenger doesn't pay out of pocket they consider it a free tipping opportunity.

did you go ankor on him?

        • @whooah1979:
Well the taxi driver knows where I live. I made a complaint via a different taxi driver the day.

If this was you, you're an ass.

You had valid concerns but the way you handled the situation is not going to get far.

    • Yeah, your language was unnecessary - very confrontational and aggressive - especially as you could have just got out the cab.

      • -1

Well I still wanted to pay. But just not the claimed fare.

    • -1

It has escalated way past my original queries to a point of no return by that stage. I'm definitely going to continue the complaint, but I have since deleted the vid from YouTube.

  • Well I reckon you caught the scammer out and nothing wrong with the language as you certainly weren't getting any cooperation.
This is what the Immigration should be checking up on with facts like dodgy ID and explanations .
You sir represent a growing silent majority ,

    • What escalating an issue with bad language and racism. I think you are talking about a noisy minority, rather than a majority and it sounds like the OP doesn't agree he has joined it.

You have absolutely no proof this driver is not in this country legally, and yet, you go straight to the race card.

  • OP has a phallus shaped object for a head. Nothing to see here folks.

  • You hear a lot of stories about families getting whoever to drive the car itself. Most likely a registered taxi but being driven by a family member or friend.

    Was it a faketaxi?
