  • Top Tip: grab a couple more remotes direct from FetchTV for $20 each delivered to stop the arguments……Bargain in itself..!!

Very happy with mine after a couple of months. A few of the streaming channels have upgraded to HD in March and work very well with my shitty ADSL connection…

    • I thought there was a smartphone app for 2nd remote, maybe not.

      • There is indeed and it's pretty good on the IPad. But having one remote in my house is asking for trouble..

      • +1

Yes there is. It's a little bit of a hassle to open the phone, open the app and press a button.

Using a Google Home is also available. "OK, Google", "Talk to Fetch", then say whatever command you want and Fetch does it. Pretty cool but takes a while to get it to do something.

        Much easier with a remote.

        • +1

AH thanks I didn't know it did that, I might have to switch back.

    • Remote app works fine… and you can control it through google home: Hey google, tell fetch tv to pause"

  • +1

Anyone tried this on their Optus fetch account? Do I have to pay optus for additional fetch activation?

    • +1

It will work fine with any ISP. However as this is a retail version, you won't have access to Optus Sport.

You don't have to pay any extra to Optus; however if you want to access the PayTV channels you'll need to subscribe to a pack (min $6/month; max $20/month). If you don't want any PayTV channels, then there is only a $1 activation fee to pay.

      • Thanks for the info. If I am subscribed to the knowledge pack on my optus fetch I should be able to access my National Geographic channel on both my Optus fetch box and this mighty box?

        • +2

Unfortunately not. Optus and Fetch accounts are completely different; multiroom won’t even work in this scenario.

Edit: I just read your original question, and I might have misinterpreted it. The Retail Fetch boxes are not compatible with your Optus account at all.

        • If you want to access your existing optus fetch channels via a second fetch box whilst someone is watching something else on the first, then you need to add that via your account. $10 per month for a mini (no recording) or $15 for a mighty, and they'll send you a box. If you want to be able to watch from a different room, but never concurrently, then a video repeater may do the job.

  • There's no ad skip on the fetch boxes is there? It's only got fast forward right?

    • No ad-skip. There is backtracking available.
It does have CRID support though… so the start / stop times are perfect for (almost) every recording. No padding required.

    • As guidelight stated, no add skip. But 32x ffw speed with backtracking works well.

    • +2

You can skip 5 minutes with one press though.

  • Lots of positives about this box. But IMHO it's not all good.
Have had to hard reboot my mighty quite often (about once every month).
No .srt or .sub (or any other) subtitles support on any downloaded video files (built in on .mkv works).

  • Hi all, silly question probably.. but here goes..

I am currently on NBN with TPG

If I buy this can I use it on TPG or do I have to sign up with Optus ?

I specifically wanted to watch the Football (soccer for you aussies) World Cup 2018 which I believe Optus has the sole rights for. So probably on Optus Sport or whatever channcel it is on Fetch TV

    thanks

    • +1

No this model is designed for any isp. Optus and others have their own version. But you would have to go with optus for their sport.

    • +1

I'm on TPG NBN and it works just fine.

  • Anyone know if this works with a keyboard? Either wireless or not.

  • I have a fetch Mighty, would rather have my old TiVo back. We barely use this any more, and when we try to it normally requires a reboot before it will output to the TV….

    • Firmware?

    • Tivos are certainly one of the best! Might be too late if its gone but if you head over to Whirlpool or Oztivo.com.au forums you will see they have a modchip and new free software mods now and a whole community dedicated to keeping them alive, complete with a new guide.

      • Sadly I traded my TiVo in to get the discount on the fetch. A Move I vehemently regret.

        • Really? I don't miss the TiVO at all. Love the Fetch. Interesting the variance in feelings about it. Hasn't missed a beat for us. I still have the TiVO - wasn't asked for it back when I took the deal, and still might mod it at some point, but not in a hurry.

    • The reboot was necessary because of the poor design in the firmware for the HDMI to communicate between the TV and the Fetch STB during the 'hand-shaking phase'. That issue went all the way back to the first version of Fetch TV's stb. I am surprised that they still haven't addressed it. (My fix was to remove the HDMI cable and re-connect and it would go through the initial hand-shaking phase then connect properly. I returned mine when I moved house and went backwards to adsl1 which was not compatible.

    • I'm the opposite, Optus killed my old Fetch, so I bought a BeyondWiz, apart from 2 major failures (video output died twice), the UI isn't great (quite clunky & not very inutitive for the bosses), especially recording programs. ABout the only save graces were ease of copying off programs & programable skip forward/back. But I miss my old fetch.

  • my major gripe on this is that the back button doesn't take you to the channel you were last watching - just back to the guide. otherwise it just works.

    • I think if you go from one channel to the next to goes back to the previous channel. but if you change via the guide it goes back to the guide.

  • Thanks for the post. I purchased and received an email from Bing Lee within an hour that it was ready for pick up. Have been waiting for a special on Fetch TV ever since Telstra advised in January that they were switching off their T-box.

    • Does that mean T-Box wont work anymore?

      • +1

Will work, but lots of features disabled

        • Wonder if they can be reverted back to roku

  • can you load kodi or similar on this?

    • No you can buy boxes around 1/4th price and save heaps for that stuff

      • not many with Tuners

      • If you want it just for Kodi you can buy boxes for $30-$40 that run LibreELEC 😂😂
Do some research and there are a fair few tuners which are supported on it as well. Definitely not as good as a Fetch TV though in that regard..

        • Mainly for TV and for kodi second

        • @asa79: Take a look on the LibreELEC forums, there’s a fair few threads on there about tuners. I’ve never worried about using one but from reading over the years it has come a long way from what it was. Still wouldn’t compare to a Tivo or Fetch TV though.

        • @Porthos: So how have you gone with linux based tuner in kodi?

I already have windows/openelec based units, I just want something simple for my folks with the ability for kodi/plex etc that doesnt need to be messed with, more something like a android Tv instead of a custom build

        • @asa79: Sorry mate, as I said I’ve never used a tuner with Kodi :-) But have seen a fair bit said about them over the years on various forums with regards to OpenELEC/LibreELEC. But haven’t read into it too much at all sorry.

    • it can play vids from your network, if thats all you're after. But if you're after Kodi, then you'll need another box or an Android TV (It runs nicely on my Sony)

  • Asa79 - T-Box will have all of the telstra and foxtel services removed by end of this month and it will then just play free to air channels. No catch up tv or apps currently available will work. Telstra have advised they will push out a final update to remove the current features and then no longer support the device. See attached telstra link
