Revzilla - Want Identification Even Though Paying Via PayPal

Hi all,

I recently placed an order with revzilla.com in the USA for a bunch of accessories to suit my new Yamaha MT07. Order went through and I paid by my verified PayPal account using sane address and details. Normally that would be all that is needed on every other transaction everywhere else I have done.

I then received an email from revzilla advising me if I don't send them a copy of my government issued identity my order would be cancelled? I replied telling them this is highly suspicious and out of the ordinary especially seeing as I used a verified PayPal account. They replied and attempted to explain their need and even acknowledge that I used a verified PayPal account but still insisted they would cancel my order if I don't send them identification. I very reluctantly sent them a photo of my drivers licence and told them I was very unhappy and have never encountered this before. Once again I got an email wanting to cancel my order as I was not happy.

Is this normal?, I have never come across it in decades of online shopping.

Occasionally i have seen that from online shops who have suffered a lot of fraud and chargebacks. I give them a really poor copy of the id (black and white low res).

Lots of US based sellers don't like handling foreign orders because it is a hassle to ship and there are risks around fraud. Their main business is domestic online sales, and maybe Canada, so they have the option to ship internationally, but it isn't something they really love doing.
So small business sites often have extra hoops so they don't get caught out.
I notice they sometimes regret their shipping charges too, especially for bulky items, and seem very keen to cancel the order (I presume they do their best to automate accurate shipping charges, but occasionally some large, light item gets sold with charges too low).

So if you can get a similar deal elsewhere, let them cancel it and move on.

Happy to if it wasn't five times the price

Exactly this. Exhaust for my grom is $850 locally or $550 overseas including shipping.

        • Does your Grom go faster now?

  • international orders are high risk. They have the right to ask, and they have the right to cancel the order.

It sucks, but your options are pretty clear.

PS paypal is terrible… at protecting buyers, so if anything a paypal would be their highest risk of payment

  • You've piqued my interest now - what was it you were buying that you couldn't get someone to bring in for you?

I imported a full Moriwaki exhaust for my CB400 a few years ago and didn't go through any of this sort of stuff, didn't get bent over on price either.
