The New Domino's Pricing Scheme Is Dumb

You may have notied that dominos now has different pricing for each topping. Heres why its dumb : All the pizzas are still the same price.

If you take a supreme pizza and want to swap capsicum to mushrooms you have to pay 50 cents more. On the other hand if you take an eight meats pizza and swap one of the toppings to mushrooms, the price stays the same.

But they are both $7.95 by default. So the only pizza that makes sense to order now is eight meats since ordering something like a supreme and swapping veggies for meat costs more.

Oh and of COURSE you dont get any discounts for swapping a $2 topping to a $1.50 topping. But you get charged for the reverse.

Just…so….dumb…

  • used to be 2 toppings free swaps back in the good old days

    • Oh its still free…but only if you swap to an equal or lower priced topping.

      • So you want a swap to a more expensive topping to be free? Seems like a logical thing to me. Just because you dont like it doesn't make it dumb.

If you don't like it vote with your money and go somewhere else.

        • Then why is the base price the same…think about it logically…I can get an eight meats pizza, swap two meat for two veggies and not pay extra, but if i swap two veggies for two meats on a supreme pizza it costs more…

Don’t go to dominos. Save money and make your own pizza!

Definitely the way to go. A lot more fun and rewarding to make your own. Dominos pizzas are absolute rubbish.

      • and you get better at mastering pizza bases as you go, and mixing sauces. start learning pizza making young

I laugh everytime someone says this. Literally every "home made" pizza ive tried has tasted worse, especially the ones made by catering companies for events who want to save money.

        • +1

Unless you run a catering company from home, that's not home made.

  • Just buy the frozen pizza when it goes on half price

  • There goes my hack, spewin.

Dominos has gone way downhill. Last few pizzas from them were absolutely awful. They always come out under cooked and with at least one topping missing, at the prices they are charging these days I wont be bothering with them anymore.

Sounds like a good lifehack - order the eight meats and then change everything to what you actually want?

    • Only for two toppings though.

  • You can kind of understand why they charge a premium for any variances. It is a lot cheaper to produce a pizza from a set menu, since any changes means extra over head.

You may think that replacing capsicum for mushroom would all but take a couple of seconds but if every order in the country was custom, it would all add up.

That's why the price doesn't go down for a cheaper topping, the effort is still the same.

    • +1

Its not a production line. They have to put all the ingredients on the pizza in the store. Whether you reach for the bottle of capsicum or mushrooms makes no difference.

The price difference is ismply because green capsicum is cheaper than mushrooms.

The dumb part is that the base price of the pizza does not take this into account. If you want to make certain toppings more expensive, then you need to make the base price reflect that as well.

It still takes more time to make your order and I would argue it does make a difference. Your order would be flagged as custom so instead of making a pizza that a worker has probably made hundreds of in a day, he has to follow special instructions to make yours.

Like I said, it all adds up.

How much for a 375ml Coke? lol

Why do you even get Domino’s pizzas?
They all taste like paper with some flavours.

    • +2

If you think they are bad wait till you try frozen pizza in the supermarkets. Literally 10x worse, except for the ristorante brand which happens to be more expensive.

      • +1

I wouldn’t put myself though that.

If your paper tastes like their Garlic Prawn pizza, please let me know where you buy your paper from! :)

  • Still lets me get a vegorama and make a pesudo supreme by swapping spinach and sweet peppers for beef and olives

  • Never thought I would see the day with a post slamming the price mechanism at dominos morphs into the OP championing their taste!

  • Starting to push the friendship with this now.

Also charging for ingredients that used to be free like garlic sauce (Pepperoni + double garlic sauce is quite good)

  • RIP taking off sauce swirls and useless veggies for prawn and chicken
