Your Favourite Spots in Melbourne

Hey guys I have some friends coming to Melbourne for about a week - would love to know what your favourite places are, both inside Melbourne and the CBD, as well as within a few hours drive. Sightseeing, food, you name it!

What comes to mind if you had to recommend some things to do?

I'm a big fan of my lounge room, nice couch, solid 4K tv, multiple streaming services and games systems. A short walk to my kitchen, to grab snacks.

I like your lounge room too, especially from just outside your window.

      • yes, the driveway provide easy access, doesn't it?

  • Hit up SkyHigh at Mt Dandenong

    • Don't, damn far and super over rated.

      • That's a subjective opinion, which I presume you've made because you have to pay for entry. Make use of what is there and it's great with fantastic views. It being far? It's 45 mins out of the city. Fits the criteria OP listed so your point there is moot:

as well as within a few hours drive.

        • Your presumption is incorrect.

SkyHigh is over rated, and I stand by my opinion.

          Like it, or lump it.

@Drew22: again, a very subjective opinion. OP is free to make up their own mind on the matter. Cheers.

        • @Cyphar: Say what?

How can one's "subjective opinion" be incorrect? It can be unpopular or you can disagree, but it can't be incorrect.

You guys just need to agree to disagree.

          Have a neg, on me.

        • @Cyphar:

You really need to look up the definition of opinion in the dictionary.

          @John Kimble:

Exactly. Have a +1, just because I can't neg anymore today.

National Gallery of Victoria. Melbourne Museum.

But I'm a Sydneysider; surely as a Melburnian you have your own favourite places that you'd love to show to your friends?

I've never been, but I've heard good things about Spearmint Rhino

Lune croissants Fitzroy - go after 8 am on weekdays and it isn't as crowded.
Nyala Fitzroy - Great African food mostly gluten free and BYO
La Niche Fitzroy - Great french food
Philipe in CBD - the lunch special is one of the best value meals in town - about $50 for two courses including a 250ml carafe of wine. Fine french cuisine.
KoKo Black for great chocolate options.

The walk from Fitzroy through the Fitzroy gardens down past the MCG across the yarra and through the Botanic gardens is a lovely stroll.
Wander down the Yarra past Southbank, the Casino, Jeff's shed and onto the DFO for shopping is also a nice walk, with stops as wanted.
