Buying a Used Dyson?

I'm in the market for a new Vacuum. I've seen the recent deals for Dyson Stick's for $300, but I feel it's a bit out of my price range.

Recently, alot of Used Dyson vacuum's have been appearing on my Facebook Marketplace for ~$100 (I assume as more people buy Dyson Sticks). Can anyone recommend a decent "older" model of Dyson vacuum that's good? I don't need HEPA filters etc and my house is a mixture of Carpet, Tiles and Floorboards.

I've seen Corded D29 and DC39's for sale (i.e non-upright models), but I'm not sure what the difference between them is. Is there a website that explains the different older models or can anyone recommend a particular model?

Thanks.

I dont recommend buying second hand dyson based on personal experience. There were 2 dysons hand sticks that were given to us (free and working at the time) now 1 is completely dead the other has issue charging. beware of issues with charger and battery. I recommend buy a newer model as it's worth the money (when it's on ozbargain again)

    • Thanks - What about used Dyson corded models?

      • no experience with the corded models, sorry

    dyson are overrated.

    I had a DC-25 upright and currently have a DC-08.

instead of that I use a 2000watt kmart vacuum.

it is more powerful, and has better suction.

it's even better than my nilfisk action plus.

yes, I have too many vacuums.

  • There has been talks of a budget vacuum that performs better than a Dyson sold in KMart.
It's always out of stock due to that tho.
    Just Google KMart Dyson.

    Also my 2 cents:
I hesitated for a long time before buying my first Dyson vacuum (V6 Animal).
When I finally did though I think it is really worth the price tag considering how liberating it is to vacuum with it.

    Vacuuming is overrated.

  • Dyson make good stuff but you pay a lot for their brand. There are other suckers out there just as good, some better, for less.

  • Dyson V6 handheld goes on sale for $220 quite often
Highly recommend it; pretty powerful but obviously not the same as a proper vac but we use it so often because it's so convenient and easy to use.
Always hated lugging out the full size vac, plugging into each room and tripping over the cord

  • Dysons are reasonably well made and work well (I am quite happy with mine) but I think 99% of the fuss is around the psychological effect of seeing the exaggerated amount of dirt in the clear canister.

As above check out the highly regarded Kmart vacuum.

  • The hand stick vacuum gives me RSI. Get an irobot instead.

  • I found an upright dyson in hard rubbish. Thought it wouldn’t work, but it did. It’s been a great workshop vac, including sucking up several barrels worth of plastering dust. It lost suction after that, but once the filter was washed out it was back to working fine again. I don’t think I’d buy one second hand for in the house though.

We also have a dyson stick vac and a dyson barrel vac that do a great job, provided they are emptied properly when needed.

  • For a hundred bucks you can buy a new vac with a decent warranty period, I don’t understand the desire for a brand name when you can’t afford it, and honestly a Dyson is just a vacuum. I know because my wife wanted one, and we got one, but after using it for a while compared to my parents Hoover, it’s honestly just sucks, they all do.

  • I picked up a DC20 for $70 a month back off gumtree, which of the ball vacuums seemed to have great reviews. I did have to pull apart the separate turbine head and clean it and oil the parts, but I hardly use that attachment anyway.

It is far quieter than my original dyson dc05 which is only failing now after ~15 years due to hose and attachment breakages; The motor though works perfect.

We also have the cordless battery-based dyson v6 which is great for the kitchen, but not so good when you want to do a whole house.
