Car Servicing Price Variation

I currently have a 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer which is due for a major service.
I have called my local Mitsubishi dealer and they quoted me approximately $1000.
Subsequently I called another dealership who told me it would cost $1200 for the same service. I then contacted another dealership and they said $800.
I feel a bit disappointed that $400 difference between the cheapest and most expensive dealership is essentially the same price as getting a minor service?
I presumed that the dealerships would have uniform pricing across the board for the same service?

Anyone else had a similar experience?

Toyota is the same… Get then to price match that's what I do

    • Is there a big difference you have found with pricing?

      • There's 3 Toyota dealerships within about 20mins of me, there's a $75 difference between the 3 of them. The One that I normally go to, not only matches the price, they give me a "senior" discount (even though I don't qualify)

  • If you don’t mind me asking what compromises a “major service?”
Everyone definition of it seems to vary one from another too

    • This service includes transmission fluid change for the CVT, brake fluid change, oil and filters, coolant. The transmission fluid is the big ticket item this service.

      • $800 Sounds about right when you factor in $100/hr labour cost.
Could always DIY if you have the time and tools

I wouldn't go to the dealership for a 2009 lancer?
Just to to Kmart Tyre and Auto — probably be around $500

They aren't called stealerships for nothing. Go to a mechanic for better deals

  • There are a lot of great car servicing deals on groupon.
