Options (Instead of Credit Card/PayPal) for Apple iTunes

How can I set up an Apple iTunes account without using a credit card or PayPal account? Can I use a VISA debit? It won't accept "None" as a payment method (even though for this account I'll only be downloading free apps). Other suggestions?

Thanks

  • Debit and pre-paid cards should work, if I recall you can remove it later.

    • So just your bog-standard VISA debit form the post office should be ok?

I have actually used one, so I can confirm it works

  • There is a way to do it with no payment, try google.
I have set up all my kids without payment methods.

    • Agreed, you don't need to set up a payment method. Recently created a new apple account for my workplace and didn't need to add a credit card or anything.

iirc if you grab a macOS/iOS device, sign out of any existing account, open the app store and attempt to download something that's free and create a new account, it should give you the option to proceed without a payment method. There may be other ways to do it but I remember this working for me.

  • hmmm, it's saying I need to contact iTunes support….frustrating. Even when I set up a new account….

  • Mine is set up with a Visa debit card, no problems. However, load and go cards might not work.

  • I think you can set up an iTune account without a credit card by:
    - get an itune gift card from supermarket at 15-20% discount
    - redeem the gift card to open a new account
