Suggestions for Ikea Malm double bed mattress

I am looking for a mattress for my Ikea Malm double bed. The bed has a slot for the mattress which is 135cm wide. However, standard double sized mattresses are 137-138cm wide. I am trying to see if there are any other options available for that sized double mattress apart from the mattresses stocked by Ikea. I am planning to spend round $300-$500 on a medium firm mattress.

Thankyou in advance.

you could get the lonset bed base that makes the mattress sit up level with the bed frame.

then you can use whatever mattress you like

    • Awesome, that should work. Thinking to get a mattress from zzz Atelier, they seem to have pretty good reviews. But there are so many others out there. So hard to know which one to go with

  • Has anyone tried the method suggested by Archi on Malm bed? I feel like it wont be level with the frame even after the raised lonset slats. I think the slats will sit 2 couple cms below the frame.

    • raise the lonset slats as well.

put some 2 cm high chocks under the slats.

    • I have 2 double beds and a queen malm beds with the lonset bed base… it is level

      • Sorry to keep bothering you mate. What sorta mattress are you using on your ikea malm? I was planning to spend around 500 and this zzz atelier on ebay seems to have a pretty decent deal and good reviews, however their mattress is 34cm high which will look silly especially after I raise my bed slats in level with the bed frame.

        • It does sit a little high..

The olds have these really firm mattresse s from a Chinese retailer.

But I guess you just get use to it.

The problem I have is I keep kicking the corners. And I can't open the under bed draws on either side because I have 2 bedsides

        • @Archi: ah that sounds annoying, those corners hurt like a b!tch too. Another problem I have come across is that there are so many retailers out there selling mattresses. The likes of snooze, havery norman, etc are way too expensive. I am thinking to go with the ikea Hovag, it has a 365 day trial period anot overly expensive. It will also save me from raising the bed slats.

  • Thanks for the input guys, I am gonna get the lonset bed slate and give that a go first

  • Just thought will update you guys, J got myself the lonset slats and its in level with the bed like Archi said. Now I need to find a decent mattress.

  • Would it be possible with ikea beds to adjust the screw holes and then move the central support brace and the side supports up so that the the slats also move up?

    • Yup, that's exactly how you raise the slats up.

  • What did you buy ml?
