I bought some of these yesterday. They are no longer in boxes but in thick bags. Pic on their website

Can vouch for the ragu. Great taste and very simple to make - must heat and pour over pasta.

    • How much fat do those products have in them?

  • +5

Not Burgers Ingredients: Water, Vegetable Protein (15%) (Wheat, Wheat Gluten, Soy), Crumb (Wheat Flour, Sugar, Salt, Yeast, Wheat Gluten), Vegetable Oils (Sunflower, Canola), Starch (Tapioca, Potato), Flavour, Batter (Wheat), Rice Flour, Sesame Seeds, Thickener (Guar Gum), Yeast Extract, Minerals (Zinc, Iron), Vitamin (B12)

    Where are the veggies ??

    • Potato.

      • +4

Potato starch. A carbohydrate extracted from potato and cereal. A polysaccharide substance, not a vegetable.

The Woolworths Macro Chickpea or Moroccan Veggieburger 4Pk 500G for $4 are a much tastier, healthier option

        • I have never heard of them.

        • Nutrition Avg Qty Per Serving Avg Qty Per 100g

You are right, they are much healthier, I will try them next time thank you. 1/2 the fat and 1/2 the protein of the promotion and twice the carbs. Do they ever go on special?

        • @freemoneyhunter:

Rarely go on sale, but at $4 for 500g (in SA) they are still better value than Vegie Delights when 50% off ( $3.25 for 340g)

          And compare the ingredients:

Vegetables (69%) (Carrots, Chickpeas, Onion, Broccoli, Peas, Corn, Potato), Breadcrumbs (Wheat Flour, Water, Wholemeal Flour, Maize Flour, Rye Flour, Yeast, Iodised Salt, Wheat Fibre, Vitamins (Thiamine, Folate)), Canola Oil, Garlic, Spice Blend (1.5%) (Parsley, Cumin, Paprika), Salt

        • @Gabnkids: I agree, it has a lot of whole food. I've tried the lentil burgers, they are almost uneatable.

    • IMO even though Sanitarium is typecast as a health food company most of their stuff is just highly processed junk food. (I still eat it though.)

      • Sanitarium foods are mostly healthy, I eat some of their foods. Which products do you have a problem with?

        • I don't have a problem with any - because I don't have a problem with junk food.

Their soymilk is made from isolates rather than whole beans, the ingredient lists on their meats are a mile long with lots of unpronounceables and (almost?) no whole sources. And they can be loaded with sugar and fat too. Fine for purpose - I take the snags on multi-day hikes without refrigeration, and when I'm lazy I microwave up some dogs(quicker than boiling) - but I wouldn't be giving it to my kids every day.

@thevofa: I drink soy milk but mainly in tea and coffee, the cereals are ok, but I mix water and soy milk together 50/50. I don't believe soy milk is good for you but is much better than dairy. Vegan meats have always been a problem, I don't think they are healthy but still better than the real thing. I was referring to their breakfast cereals as being healthy, not their fake meats, I thought they only made a nutmeat product in a can, didn't know about the other things.

        • @freemoneyhunter:

Weetbix are IMO their healthiest offering.

From an evolutionary point of view I think we are well able to thrive on certain types of flesh as well as plants. (Not that today's domesticates at all resemble the types of species whose flesh our ancestors consumed for tens/hundreds of thousands of years, and neither are they now necessary.) But dairy is a recent addition to humankind; half the human population can't even tolerate it; I'd rather soy any day, not even considering what a mindf*cked idea it is to drink some other species' baby's milk.

        • @thevofa: Yes you know feedlot cattle has 5x saturated fat as grass fed beef. Agree about dairy, I don't believe any any animal products should be consumed as they contain cholesterol.

    • Thanks.
But why the need to add sugar???

      • +3

        Is helpful in creating addiction.

    • Where does vegetable protein come from??

      • "Wheat, Wheat Gluten, Soy" apparently

    • The chickenless schnitzel contains egg whites.

      • No they don't, when they changed the packaging, they also reformulated the ingredients so they are all vegan now.

        • Oh fair enough, the Woolies page is out of date then. They were wiping out a chunk of possible customers before.

  • Do the schnitzels have sugar?

    • Yes 3g of sugar per 100g.

      • Sorry,

        I meant, added sugar.

It is a really good deal, I am vegetarian and low fat eater and these things are ok perhaps once per week. They do contain a lot of fat but it is unsaturated and when you cook them a lot of oil comes out. I bought the chicken and the hamburger ones, I cooked 3 up by using the sandwich press. They don't taste as good as the real thing but they are close enough to fool someone.

They have about 20g of carbs per 100g, so they are not low carb type diet friendly.

  • Thanks for this OP.

I’m disappointed they aren’t called “schNOTzels”.

    Thank you very much OP!
