How to Maximises The Use of Employers Meal Entertainment Card by 31st March FBT Year

I can’t eat every day in restaurants and take away to spend that money. We are supposed to spend all money by 31st March this year. Can oz bargain community suggests some value for the money to get maximum benefits by getting gift cards or etc?I tried to use coles and woollies few times before but now they blocked these super market purchases. Now we still access to small groceries shop and butcher etc.If we don’t spend all money by end of this FBT year we won’t be getting full money on every pay next year. Its a Visa Card supplied to all employees those who requested from employers.

do you know anyone that owns a restaurant swipe the card there without ordering food.. the owner gives you half the value back in cash..

      That's money laundering

      • Whoopty (profanity) doo

      • ok… tell the restaurant you want a plate of pasta take away and charge me $300 for it. if I happen to find $150 in my take away bag i'll endeavour to let you know ASAP and when I can return it,

there are lots of things you can call it…

        • another way if you prefer tell the restaurant to charge you $300 per day without eating any food…and keep on the books as credit and you can go back whenever you like to eat and not be restricted to eat or use all the money by march 31st. more like pay now eat later

Its not money laundering, as its not turning illegal earnings into 'valid' earnings.

    • I don’t wanna give half money to the owner,I can buy something else like groceries instead. I can stock the groceries for the money remaining.Do you have any other suggestions please

Use it for groceries. Just make sure the receipt is all food items

    • +3

You can do this if the food items are for at home entertaining. If you get audited, have the details of the event/birthday party you threw at hand.

pretty sure some friend or ozbargainers can help you with that

    • Guggestions please?

I can take care of that for you.

  • Book a weekend away and use it for accommodation and a nice meal out?

How much do you have on the card?

    • I have total $773 in two cards altogether. How should I book the accomodation and meal together by using this card.I should be able to rationalise these spending if they ask me.But usually they didn’t ask me in previous occasions.I spent in coles and woollies by getting some gift cards in previous years by the end of fbt year but now they blocked those merchants. But I am using now in small groceries shops with restaurants without any issues.

        Justify this to who?

        • I may have to justify to the bank who supplied the Visa card or the employer but nobody knows until today. But my colleague used to buy alcohol with these cards but nobody caught and enquired on these issue. It was with another bank before but now new bank supplied.Probably the employer changed the contract with the banks.

        • @benhil:

Alcohol is allowed from what I was told
I regularly submit my dan Murphy’s receipts

        • @Hoju:
Can I buy Dan Murphy’s online or in store?

        • @benhil: don’t see why it would make a difference

    • I didn’t think it covered accommodation?

After debating whether I would apply for this card, as I think it encourages spending, I decided I only would if I only used it when sensible and didn't try and max out the spending at the end of the year.
Just send in a low amount this year and be more on the ball during the next year to use it for entertaining expenses.

The deal our family is eligible for splits the benefit with the employer anyway, so it is the equivalent of a 18% off sale. Do you book a holiday etc. you weren't planning if you see an 18% off price?

  • Why are you rushing to spend? Won't any excess just be refunded to you (albeit taxed)?

Imo, you're better off with less on the card than spending tax free money on things you don't need.

    • I got this email from the company who runs this programme for my employer.
The end of the FBT Year (31 March 2018) is fast approaching.
Have you been making the most of the savings available to you?

You have an annual cap limit of $2,650 each FBT Year - make sure you're spending the funds on your Meal Entertainment Card.
      Leftover card balance
Any balance left on your card at the end of the FBT Year will still be available for you to spend in the new year.

However, because you have a set annual cap, those funds will count towards your $2,650 limit for 2018-19 and you'll have missed out on some of this year's available savings.

      • Yes - but remember this is your money, and savings on something you weren't going to buy anyway doesn't count as a saving.

  • Does any restaurants or take away gives gift cards to purchase?
