Is the Coles Rewards Mastercard still a decent Deal to sign up for?

I'm looking for a good points card for use while on a work transfer to the United States for a year,

The Coles Rewards Mastercard has all the benefits I need,

  - Points rewards
  - International transaction Fee
  - $10 a month additional cardholder

I recently cancelled my ANZ travel adventures card, so while signing up for that again is an option it's annual fee of $225 and additional card holder + $65 is very steep when I won't be getting bonus sign up points or domestic benefits.

With the recent Citibank takeover the Coles Rewards Card has gone through many changes and has no signup offers I can find, their support also won't answer any questions through Facebook or their website form.

Even with the changes it still appears to be the best card I can get for the above benefits. Is there now a general lack of faith in the card being any good and does anybody know of any other possible alternatives?

PS. I also have the 28 degrees card that came with my OzBargain membership as backup

There haven't been any changes yet and there is no sign that there will be. If you like the deal just sign up at worst you get rid of it if it changes under the new ownership? (Especially the no annual fee card - you have literally nothing to lose).

My understanding is that all points have been removed on government spend and government associated spend since this card last featured in a deal. The price protection part of the card is also gone. The Coles no annual fee card has a well below average rewards per $ and charges international transaction fees so is not a great option.

The price protection stuff is not gone - don't know where you got that info from.

Yep - rewards for the no annual fee option are well below average, but if its just reward options you are chasing there are far better options. I use it for price protection/free delivery from coles online and for those things its great - and a nice bonus is SOME reward points. i honestly have no idea what the international transaction fee on it is.

but basically - all the stuff you listed above is still on the normal coles mastercard so what's the problem with that one?

I think theres no Account Cover Plus option for new signups anymore and now theres a complimentary Allianz insurance. But that doesnt seem to cover Price Protection.

        • @kza2610: when will it go for existing customers? :(

        • @science-teacher: i dont think it'll go, at least not without a fair warning (past 2 years?) as a lot of people would have bought purchases on the basis that they can claim within 2 years. well, I hope it wouldnt anyway!

  • I think the additional cardholder fee is $10 per annum, not monthly.

    • Oh shiii. I wonder if it applies to existing as I don't need it anymore..

So Coles(Citibank) now charge for an extra card? I didnt see that in the original list of changes sent out nor did i see anyone mention it?

No. They snuck that one in. Doesn't apply to existing no annual fee cardholders but does to existing rewards card holders apparently. Unimpressed, again.

  • After the Provider change, I find that the Customer Service/Quality of Service got affected/deteriorating. First it was the process of Re-Registering your account again with them (instead it should have been a smooth transition). Now I am without access for Online Account due to some other initiative they have undertaken and did not bother to communicate to their Customers.

I am looking for alternatives now..

  • I try to cancel the card and be asked why 10 times, got transferred 3 times and on the phone for more than 2 hours with 45 mins wait time.

Never again. Did not register the new online account as there is some information required but I did not provide.

    • Did they offer any incentive to keep you?

      • not really

        • Called on the weekend to cancel. I was told they would call me back during the week to discuss. I said nothing to discuss you have reduced the benefits so I want to close. I was told it was closed at the end of the call and asked when I would get my confirmation, then I was told I would get a call. I gave up as I was going in circles.

Return call happened during the week, was offered fee free for 1 year.

        • @MrBr0:

My card is a fee free one so nothing that they could offer
