Purchased Product on Groupon, They Immediately Cancelled Order and Refunded

So yay, they refunded the money - but it's just so annoying that they cancelled the order less than 24 hours after I placed it. Just wondering if this sort of thing happens a lot, and I'm thinking that they're just fishing for new memberships.

What did they say when you asked them?

  • What product was it?

  • I've not had a chance to follow up with them yet, I mean, they've effected the refund so it's currently even stevens… other than zero gain after all the effort. This is the product:

    • You might want to shop around. At first glance it looks like a model I recently bought from Bing Lee for $179(?), <$200 anyway.

      • Thank you, yes I did shop around, at least via google, myshopping, shopbot, ebay, appliancesonline. Of the stores that actually sell this vacuum, groupon was best by $100.

So what would you like us to do about your situation?

You haven't really asked for anything and there's not much we can do about it.

Even Stevens is the best you'll get unless you're expecting them to compensate you for your time in going through the checkout process? (btw, there's zero chance of that!)

    • It's all good, I'm not asking you to do anything. Just curious if I'm expecting Groupon to be fishing for memberships, if that's standard practice. Which I suppose would be the case if this particular product were to remain on their website.

      • They'd put out a deal on something cheap with mass appeal if they were going to do that. Anyway I opted out of promo email, so I don't notice that I have an account with them.

Doesn't seem the best way to get memberships. I mean, someone already wanted to purchase a product, which they would make profit on. Then they go ahead and cancel it. If anything, I think that would annoy customers more and likely prevent them from buying in the future.

Then there's the hassle of cancelling customer orders.

      • It could just be they have a shit system where the orders vs stock levels don't necessarily sync properly.

Guess a quick cancellation and refund is better than waiting a few days or weeks before they realise and tell you.

        • seems it was an on-sell from a company called "1day", i did a google and 1-day.com.au (assuming the same thing) website is no longer operational.

  • If they're going to cancel it better to be cancelled within 24 hours than later - so you have more time to find a replacement if you were counting on it for whatever reason.

    • i agree totally
