Advice Re AmEx Gold Credit Card - Keep or Change?

I am seeking some advice re my existing AMEX Gold Credit card.

I've had this card - well - for a very long time - and basically when I signed up I got it annual fee free for life and free supplementary cards.

The card doesn't appear to be offered anymore (as in I can't really find any pages with info on it - so finding it's actual current conditions/features is "interesting").

It is sorta annual fee free however I do have to pay $40 a year for access to the Amex Rewards program (so I do accumulate rewards - it looks like I get 1 point per $ (for everything other than govt/utilities/telco/insurance - which are 0.5/$))

I do get access to the Amex Offers/Shop Small/etc and presumably other things. I don't believe I get things like travel insurance, etc or access to airport lounges.

I also have other credit cards - e.g. ANZ Black Visa Rewards (came with home loan so also want to investigate whether I want to change this), 28 Degrees (for OS purchases). I have no FF (Qantas or Velocity) points earning cards currently (but family all have both Qantas and Velocity FF memberships - I think we pool them into one for each?)

So my questions are:

• do I keep this Amex card as is or should I cancel and eventually switch to what? (assuming the 12/18? month waiting period before applying for one of those bonus FF points offers ones)

• should I look at one of the Visa Black FF bonus point offers cards (e.g. ANZ FF Black/St George Amplify Signature/Westpac XXX, etc) - given I have an existing ANZ Rewards only - I presume? I'm not excluded from the bonus point/fee free first year deal even with ANZ FF Black? - and do the whole cancel after 6 months thing, etc?

NB: I'm not entirely sure I can deal with the whole switching cards every six months thing (and having to change all those auto payments, etc every time) but I would like to at least know what my options are - e.g. minimal annual fees and good features/value long term vs chasing point accumulation, etc
