How Much Does It Cost to Polish Hardwood Floors?

Moving to a new house soon, I have three bedroom 3m x 3m. No coating is on the current wood. I will rip up the carpet on top. How much does it cost for someone to sand, coat and polish it? Just want to know the rough price so I don't get over priced quote.

I live in outer suburbs, NSW.

  • Why not google it, "flooring Hardwood Floors" then find two or three companies then use the cheapest quotation. Assuming, cheapest is good as rest of them.

They have to come and inspect the current condition of the wood, im moving in so i rather accept the first acceptable quote when they are there, rather than having all my stuff unpacked and waiting for different people to show up.

If you remove the carpet and the grippers yourself and the flooring is in good condition (no remediation required) it will be cheaper - even punching in the nails and filling the holes can save a significant part of the cost.
Water based is more expensive, but less durable than oil-based polyurethane. If you go oil-based then you need to allow 3-5 days for the worst of smell to go, but it can take 2-3weeks before you stop noticing it.

If you look around, 15-20 bucks per square meter is reasonable with sanding and 3 coats of polyurethane, $30 - $35 if you get them to do the bulk of the work.

    • Thanks for the heads up. Appreciate it.

  • I would be more worried to find someone who does a good job, not that easy
