Dog Breeders/Sellers - Corgis - Sydney

Hello fellow pet owners,

I was wondering if anyone here can suggest me a reputable corgi breeder in Sydney as I am looking to extend my family.

Also, if anyone has any tips how to pick the right Corgi, it would be much appreciated!

Thanks so much! :)

    Corgi owner here.

They’re a great dog. Beware that they are still very much a working dog. If you’re not aware of this going in, you’re going to have a bad time. If it helps think of them as collies with dwarfism.

Corgis are almost exclusively breed by old ladies. There is a waiting list ~ 2 years depending on the kennel. You won’t be able to get one this weekend. You will need to befriend them to even get on the list.

I recommend going to all the corgi events (dog shows, not insta meet ups) in your area. Speak to the breeders, compliment their dogs, form a relationship. Just adding your name to an online waiting list isn’t going to cut it.

    • Hi there HiddenOrchid,

Thanks so much for your reply and tips :)

May I ask where you bought your corgi from? fingers crossed you're in sydney

Yeh i've definitely added my name to 100 lists and yeh.. ive never gotten a call back.

Not a corgi owner but I found my pure bred dog breeder on here https://www.dogzonline.com.au

    Good luck.

    PS look outside NSW.

    • A quick search on dogzonline and I can see puppies available for the 2 different variants of corgi already.

I bought my shih-tzu here last year through a breeder.

You can also ask the breeder if they can send the dog to you via air when it's of age. That's how I got mine.

      • May I ask what you typed in? I couldnt find any corgis available.

        Cheers x

        • @tallkid123:

Oh no wonder i couldnt find it :)

          Thanks :)

1 is in QLD so no dice. The other one is selling their Corgi's for $6000 to $8000 -_- so no dice too.

        • @debe: you could drive back from qld or ask the breeder to air freight him/ her to you.

Puppies are expensive. $6000 seems excessive though. Why is it that much? Fancy mother or father ?

        • @knick007:

I think I will try waiting for Sydney ones first :)

Yeh, I was thinking $3k or under is reasonable.

"We've realised that we can longer breed corgis to a tight budget and if we can't breed the quality that we ourselves would like to buy, then we'd rather not breed at all. Hopefully there will be enough pet owners out there that agree with our position. When we are able to offer pups in the future, their price will reflect our investment in breeding only the best quality in soundness, temperament and confirmation. Puppies with fluffy coats will be $6000 and those with the normal short coat will be $8000. The price difference between the coats acknowledges the additional care that the fluffy coat requires for the life of the dog . "

        • @debe:

I think you've just found out the reason a lot of people don't go for a purebred nowadays.

Expect to pay a premium regardless.

And for the most part, negotiating prices with breeders is not gonna happen.

(My shih-tzu was $2500. But she was worth it though.)

        • @tallkid123:

I'm glad it worked out for you :) yeh I can do $2.5k

I just had another one come back with $3750 to $4000 hmmmmm

But you dont get to pick your dog. Its allocated to you:(
I'm not certain if I'd feel comfortable paying that amount of money and not getting to pick my own future dog -_-

My breeder was in Dubbo, you willing to drive?

    • Dubbo is fine :)

Can you please advise me who the breeder was? Thanks :)

I can drive anywhere within sydney :)

      • Can you share with me this information? I cant find any pups anywhere, been looking for months.

    • Hi there, Are you also able to send me information regarding this breeder too? Thank you

    • Hi, I'm also looking into getting a Corgi, preferably a Pembroke. Would you be able to let me know who the breeder is? Looking to form a rapport with a few breeders now as we will hopefully have a house with a fully enclosed land in the next 18months or so! Also when you went out to the breeders place was the mother/father of the puppies kept in good condition? Wanting to make sure I find an ethical breeder/not a puppy mill.

    • @dollarmenu

Can you share this information with me on private message? I am willing to drive too. Have struggled for months trying to find a pup.

  • Im so sorry for all the messages, im new to this site and can't figure out how to get my message to send notifications.
But can you please please please share with me which breeder you found your corgi from?

  • Hi,

I'm doing some research before deciding on getting a corgi pet and I saw this post. Seems you were successful in finding a one. Could you please tell me which breeder you went with, and what the process and costs were like?

    Thanks a lot.
