OnePlus 5T or iPhone X?? First world problems.....

Hi guys and girls,

Help me out of a first-world problem here……I have saved up $2000 on the side dedicated for a phone upgrade and now, with the effort taken, its getting harder to justify the collosal price of the X.

Im definitely not a fan of the iPhone 8/+ and the pixel, currently using the 6s and don't mind switching back to android.

Reasons for iPhone X:
-Already have the iWatch and Airpods (Airpods are the most comfortable earphones I've ever owned)
-Prepared to keep the phone for 2+ years (Have used Oneplus 1,2 & 3 and they don't seem to last)
-Like the aesthestics
-Used to the apple ecosystem
-All my bloody contacts and photos……..I'll either jumpship now or never

Reasons for 1+5T:
-Half the price
-Like the aesthestics

I'm not a BIG fan of the Galaxies and Pixels only because for the price, I would rather go the full way for the X.

Thanks

chuck 2k into super and retire earlier

    • I'm not sure what your super looks like but 2k is not a considerable amount to reduce your working life..

      • how much is 2k compounding over 30 years ,
assuming OP isn't an old man looking for iph-X

        • in a generic super account. not much due to fees.

        • @Oz8argain: better than nothing. And yes to that 30 years compounding

      • have to admit, after reading finance books, you have a good point

you'll lose some important functionalities on your iWatch and Airpods. you'll have to sell them.
    I bought a 1+ 5T and it's nothing special, just a well spec'd phone at a good price.

I've got the OP5T, and it is buttery smooth. Love it. Wife has the iPhone X and I get frustrated using it.

  • I own a iPhone 6S as well and I would like to switch out to android too. I wonder why you seem to think that iPhones last longer than the OnePlus phones. My less than 2 year old iPhone already has a pretty crappy battery life (thanks to Apple) and my wife's 15 month old OnePlus 3T is still working great. I have friends who still use their OnePlus 2 phones with no real issues.

Yup, the watch and the airpods are great and their alternatives from other brands are not even half as good IMHO but i'm really beginning to hate Apple phones, their inflated prices and the company itself. I want to jump ship as soon as possible without locking myself into their ecosystem via their other offerings.

    • To be honest, I think i like Oneplus more than I should. I've recommended it to family and they've bought the 1,2 and 3 and their performance drops after a year or so…maybe it's just with the ones I bought.
If only the Airpods worked on the 5T, life would be LEGO style!

  • Unbox Theraphy covers this issue here https://youtu.be/2fGXDFiFBhg.

  • Just remember if you watch Netflix or Youtube in more than 480P you need to send your one plus one 5t to hong kong to be updated to support HD video.

You cant just upgrade the DRM yourself.

I've had Nexus phones for my last three phones but I'm seriously considering the Nokia 7 Plus due to stock Android and timely OS updates (for 2 years at least):

    • What can one do with a Nokia other than make phone calls?

    • Nokia 7 Plus is on an insane price level though. I get that it has NFC but it should be sold between $400-500. I'm very excited for the phone but i won't buy it if it's more than $500.

  • Is oneplus a “first world” brand?

  • I am in pretty much the same boat, but I don't have airpods or a watch.

I just balk at the 1.8k for the 256gb (because that's the one I would buy) everytime I think about it.

I did buy the x and tried it out, but I returned it because ITS JUST NOT WORTH 1.8K.

And at the same time, 1.5k for the s9+ 256 is not cheap either.

If oneplus actually sold here, I would probably have bought one already, but eh, ebay and warranty.. eh.

  • I bought the 5T only for dash charging and it's cheaper price compared to the other flagships. $1.5k+ for a phone? That's computer territory! I then flashed lineage OS for that 'stock-er' look. And you could still use your other smart devices albeit with less functionality - no idea how much less though.

  • I was contemplating the iPhone X vs getting a new GPU

Fast forward 3 months and I'm sitting here with a new GTX 1080Ti with plenty of spare cash for a Oneplus 5T. Just looking for a deal for a 8GB model now
