Recommendation for a high quality telescopic mobile phone car mount

Hi guys,

The title says it all.

I currently use this one:
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Universal-360-Rotation-Car-Winds…

It doesn't feel high quality at all, the suction cup actually melted while driving in the heat, and now it is sticky but doesn't keep stuck to the windscreen.

I have this one which I bought ages ago, but the suction cup is good on that one. Just that, it is too far away from reach and I don't like the mounting mechanism.

The phone is a Pixel 2 in a Spigen Slim Armour. Remember, some mounts won't work with the Pixel because the volume buttons come all the way down to the middle of the phone, meaning the mount needs to support some offset.

Fire away your suggestions.

I just came across the Spigen Kuel AP12T. Is that any good? Pretty expensive though. $40 on eBay. The car is a Toyota Aurion 2007 and I don't know it will stick to the dashboard well.

  • Why one that sticks to the windscreen? I've got one that clips onto the air conditioning vent. It works fine, although it's maybe not the best quality one I could have bought. I've also seen them with devices that sit the device in the drinks holder. If your car is going to be sitting in the summer sun for long periods, the suction cup ones are probably all going to give you grief as the rubber deteriorates in the heat.

    • I used a magnetic mount fixed to the vent for a short while. I didn't like it much, but it could well be because the magnet wasn't strong enough. Plus, the metal plate which I had to slide between the phone and the case interrupted with Android Pay when I had a Galaxy S7, so I want to steer away from magnetic mounts.

      • No, not magnetic. The holder itself physically clips onto the aircon vent. The phones sits in a cradle that grips the phone on three sides.

  • OP I'm looking for something too for my Pixel XL 1. So far I haven't found anything that ticks all the boxes. Are you looking for something that chargers or just a dock? Let me know what you come across.

    • You mean like a wireless charger? Pixel 2 doesn't have wireless charging support, so no.

If you are asking about a charger that plugs into the cigarette lighter, again, no. I am using the Roidmi 3S because the car doesn't have Bluetooth support.

  • Maybe not the exactly the one that you looking for but I found this one really practical.

  • Get a ram mount one.
    Best ever

I got mine from camzilla in Lindfield

    • The mounting mechanism looks pretty nice. How/where do you fix the mount?

Can you give me the exact model number of what you bought? That would be really helpful.

      • I have this one I think:
        https://www.camzilla.com.au/ram-universal-5-iphone-android-c…

Basically, a suction cap on one end.
        A medium length arm ~10 to 15cm
        and a 4-prong attachment.

The phone is attached via a big X.
Such that you squeeze one side (left or right) of the X and that opens up the X at the top and bottom; so you slide your phone in and let go.

It is really quick to put the phone in and out. Much quicker than those slide-a-horizontal-catch mechanism ones. And because there's nothing at the bottom the charge cable goes in easy too.

Only problem is if your phone has the side buttons near the X corners then you may have to be careful not to press them when mounting.

I use the suction cap onto the windscreen. It's pretty good - still however, it falls off every now and then - maybe twice a year, possibly three.

I've had it in very hot weather in my car - and at worst it fell off while the car was parked over the weekend. But it didn't melt into smitherines.

You can buy a longer arm or a shorter arm.
In the middle of the arm there's a tightening thingo that can be loosened to allow the arm to move the phone-X and the suction cap, and once tightened they both lock into place.

They sell multiple sized X for different sized phones
They have them all at the shop so you can try them out.

  • I literally just bought the same one you mentioned first….
So mentioned it wasn't HQ and that the suction cup was irreversibly damaged by heat, when it WAS working though, how was it? Did it vibrate/rattle/shake too much ? Perfectly fine?
I just want something that would stick well and not rattle/move.
