I dont get why people pay so much money for surge protectors. Belkin stuff is over-priced. Just compare there Joules rating to other cheaper brands and in alot of cases you'll find they are no better.

you are not buying the rating you are buying the insurance

Wouldn't mind betting they'll weasel out of the warranty somehow anyway…

Dick Smith have ones with supposed warranties cheaper than this anyway.

If people actually want to spend this sort of money then get a electrician to install a Schneider one on your incoming supply and then use a cheap power board…you'll be doubly protected.

        • What's a Schneider?

        • Depending on where lightning hit and where you were at the time of the event. Surge arrestor does not mean 100% protection.

The only real advantage with Belkin is the lifetime warranty + insurance on all connected product. Spending $100 on a board and protecting a $2k domestic appliance. It's actual no that bad of a deal IMO.

        • Schneider Electric are large manufacturer/brand of industrial and commercial grade electrical gear.

They manufacture surge protectors that are fitted to your electrical distibution board. Will do a much better job at protecting everything in your house than Belkin gear.

  • bought a $30 belkin from dicksmith last time round. To be honest, thats the most i'm probably gonna spend on some "plugs"

If you are going to spend ridiculous amounts on Surge Protectors then you are a stones throw away from getting a UPS.

All consumer UPS have surge suppressors and you can even get ones that can auto-regulate voltage.

I can't say I would want to spend more than $50 on a power board, especially when it does not have individual switches.

    • This is a good deal.
However i got one of these, and its the biggest waste of money I've spent. The Surge protection kick in too often and in the end I remove this surge protectors and use one of those $5 power-board and it work like a charm.

  • buy a couple of the $5 power boards with surge protectors. plug them in to each in series. one of them would have to kick in if there was a surge.

I found one of these in a dumpster and it works and use it now because it has eight points.

but I ask you - "when was the last time you got a power surge that destroyed something electronic?"

though saying that -my father in law lives in the country and lightening hit his house and blew up the TV and video, and another time it the telephone line and blew up the fax. Though insurance covered these.

Two weeks ago! :( Lightening hit the phone line nearby, and it took out my modem/router, the integrated network card on my pc motherboard, network cables connected to router, and a uniden cordless base station.
