FTTN NBN sign up when available or wait?

NBN is rolling out in our area soon and I was just wondering if we should get it when it becomes available or wait?
Has anybody signed up for NBN as soon as it has become available in area and had problems?
We are getting FTTN.

  • I dont know what the current situation is like, but when we signed up we did it as fast as we could, we had to wait 6 weeks, those who we know signed up later had to wait upto 4 months (now that was FTTP, which is a much more involved install)

  • What are you hoping to gain by waiting?

    Go with AussieBB

    • Isnt the right question to ask, what is there to lose by switching, and a lot of people have many stories of horrors. So if u have working internet that could be better.

I’m going to wait a while before I switch when nbn is on, probably wait till neighbours switch first and see if there is any issues.

  • what speed to you currently get?

in our case we were 7.5km from exchange so really only had the min 1.5mbps (sometimes 2mbps).

FTTN and 'around 2km of copper' according to install guy (1.3km by road), we get about 20mbps.

  • +1

no reason not to. For some reason a lot of people are hesitant to upgrade to it, coz everyone bags the hell out of it. Its getting bagged for good reason, but its still better than adsl 90% of the time

  • Signed up s soon as it was available, 8 days for tech appointment and my internet went from 0.8mbps to 45mbps (on a 50/20 plan). Hoping speeds remain constant after more people sign up to it over time..

  • If you are planning on using Aussie Broadband I would sign up as soon as possible. Some POI's reach 80% capacity straight away.

  • My main reason for asking is if people were having problems when NBN has only just gone up in the area.
My speed at moment with ADSL2 is 15664 kbps and I am with Telstra.
