Bargains Don't Make Me Happy Anymore

Hi guys,

I used to get a deep satisfaction in bargain hunting - the battle of persuasion and patience and sensation in knowing that you 'won'.

More recently, this feeling has disappeared. I no longer feel satisfied with scoring freebies or even bother saving an extra 5%. I guess that I am slightly financially better off is a factor but certainly I am not 'rich'. It appears to me that it is not only me that feels this way. The general attitude on Ozbargain seems that people are not as concerned in finding the best value.

Anyway getting to point - I am hoping to receive some inspiration and encouragement to get back to my bargain hunting spirit. Getting the best and making the most from your situation is an intrinsic part of me. I am also looking to hear others opinion on this matter.

Also, this is not a metaphor for my sexual life.

What do you guys think I should do?

you should try the blue pills

    • The blue pill does become easier to swallow in time but it still has its side effects. It seems like that is what everyone is recommending so far which is a bit disappointing given the nature of this site but understandable.

Sounds like they already took the red pill though.

What about the flip side of it? Does getting ripped-off, paying full price still make you feel mad?

    • Absolutely. I hate the feeling that I'm getting the shorter end of the stick.

You've become complacent. So used to bargains that they don't wow you any more.

Maybe you need 6 months of paying RRP to make you really feel you're getting a bargain.

    • That's definitely a possibility. Ozbargain has definitely shown me a new world.

Hahaha basically "have an affair with RRP, then you will realise what you had".

Tell your friends of your bargain wins and see their reactions, it'll show how lucky you are for being a part of such an awesome website. I don't mean bragging, just sharing your experiences with others to save them money also.

Some people I know get genuinely shocked about some of the things I save on. If you don't feel like you're "winning" anymore, help others to gain a similar feel.

have you seen whats being posted lately $1,000 prams & over 100 upvotes? For every person that says I stacked code X & used my giftcard Y plus getting cash rewards there's another 10 who blindly bought it & don't need it .

And there's another 20 that just wandered into the local Hardly Normal and paid full price!

      • Used to be me lol

  • Til come back just take a break for a little while it happened to me it will or can happen to you

  • The general attitude on Ozbargain seems that people are not as concerned in finding the best value.

    No, that is just you.

Also, this is not a metaphor for my sexual life.

Really? Once again, probably just you.

  • This is serious, this could be the precursor to economic disaster for us all.

You maybe a trendsetter, so we had best start selling shares and houses, because if this become contagiuos, the crash is coming.

For me, it's not just about being the cheapest, but what is the best BARGAIN. That includes time spent looking for it (now that I'm more financially stable, time is more valuable to me), and time spent (possibly) fixing a cheap item.

E.g. Just buying a $30 SD card, when I should wait/hunt for that $28.50 sale. That extra pissing about is rapidly becoming less and less of an actual "bargain" to me. Am I going to buy a $50 HDMI cable from JB? Still, no. But is that $3 job off Ali worth it to have to replace it in maybe 3 months? Also probably no. I get a $10 belkin off ebay and have a fairly good, reliable cable.

Edit: damnit this post was ancient ><

    • I'm still listening bae

  • I just don't buy anything now!

I think about if I need something, unless I truly need it. I don't buy it. Easy way to save!
