Using Diesel Fuel Conditioner

I've got a diesel ute, 11years old, 145,000km. It had been playing up a little. Going into limp mode, then lately had a real flat spot on acceleration, enough that the motor had virtually no power until whatever blockage cleared and the turbo kicked in.

I've run a couple of Diesel Conditioner (brand withheld) treatments and it seems to have cleared up and is now running pretty well without any other maintenance to fix the problems.

Who else uses this stuff?
Is it coincidence that the car is now running properly?
Have I been duped by the marketing into buying $20 worth of snake oil?

I've also read that you can make your own for 10% of the cost and am now considering using the budget version and using a bit now and then.

Has it been serviced correctly? Filters changed etc, as what you're describing sounds like a blocked fuel filter.

    • Fuel filter was replaced just before the issue started. I’d also previously run a diesel purge cleaner that fixed a limp mode issue after idling. Also put 3-4 conditioner treatments through.

I’ve been led to believe it may be a suction control valve, which I will replace first if the fault reoccurs.

  • Do a search on 'Diesel Bug'. The additive might have broken it down and cleaned our your injectors.
I've got a 11 year old diesel Patrol with 290,000KMs. I use Chemtech Diesel Power Fuel Additive once a month to try to keep diesel bug at bay and to keep the old injectors going, and it does run noticeably smoother with it mixed in the tank.

  • I use fuelset sometimes. On reccomendation from my mechanic, it seems to be doing the job.

You might want to look into blanking your EGR as they cause quite a lot of problems for newer vehicles.

BP ultimate diesel is by far the best diesel I have used, car runs so much smoother on it.

You might need your manifold cleaned out, or replaced too by the sounds.

    • Yes, will need to clean out the I tercookwr and manifolds. eGR was also blanked recently.

I had diesel algae in my car from the service station having water in their tanks. Always a good idea to use an additive.

Sounds like your manifolds might be blocked. I bought a brand new dual cab and the first thing I did was install a catch can and a device to never open the exhaust gas recirculation to clog the mixture up.

Costs about $1000k for my ute then you'd want to install ateast a catch can after. What car is it?

    • It’s a d40 Navara. Catch can might be on the cards once I clean everything out.
