    one of the greatest, if not THE greatest, documentary of all time (IMO)

    • Life Story was better.

    • For once I agreed with my wife on this. Blue Planet only focuses on one aspect (water duh!) and she found it repetitive after a few episodes. Planet Earth I and II on the other hand has more variety. I havent seen BP 2 yet but Im assuming it will be similar to BP1 which we have just finished.

      • Once you watch the first few minutes of the first episode with the snake and the lizard, it will have you hooked. Seriously one of the most intense viewing I've ever seen on tv

        • +1

          Thats Planet Earth not Blue Planet. This post is about Blue Planet (I agree with you that Planet Earth 1/2 is the best documentary of all time)

        • @Piranha2004:

          Oh yeah, misread the title..I retract my statement of best documentary ever. That title belongs to planet Earth

  • Better to wait till the 4k version becomes cheaper

  • I have both blue ray and 4K version of planet earth II and I can’t see a significant difference between these two, to me this blue ray collection is good enough.

    • I totally agree. Unless you're trying to show off or sit less than 1m away from a 60" TV, 4k bluray isnt worth the price difference

      • +4

        Hdr is the difference

    • Do you have have a hdr 10 TV? Some things wrong with your setup

      • LG OLED 55B7T which I bought 3 months ago, for most movies I don’t think the image difference can justify the price difference.

        • 55inch is too small, wouldn't bother with 4k unless you get 65inch or above and sit within 3m. You should still see more vibrant colours with HDR though

        • @mlburnian:

          Personally I have my eye on a 4K HDR projector, such as the BenQ HT2550 for $1500. That has the scale to make some point of the 4K, and even delivers some HDR goodness.

          Probably get that, or what follows it, once my existing one's bulb gives out.

        • @mlburnian:

          I need to disagree;

          BTW 75 inch TV owners may say 65 inch is too small for 4K too.

        • @mlburnian:

          When I play games like Forza Horizen 3 I can see the difference between 2K and 4K right away;

          The reason image quality is not significantly improved for movies from 2K to 4K is not size, but because many 4K movies are not true 4K, I tend to believe Planet Earth II is one of them.

        • @Hsinking:
          Matter of perspective of course, but most would agree that 55inch is too small. But there is actually an industry guideline for size and viewing distance for discerning between different resolutions, for 65inch its about 3m for 2k.

        • @Hsinking: planet earth two is mostly 4k source apart from some scenes. The difference in forza 3 is most likely the HDR you are noticing

        • @mlburnian:

          When I was comparing I was sitting about 1m away from my TV and I can see more details , but definitely no significant difference, in my opinion it is only 10%~15% better;

          Same result with “I am legend”;

          “Crouching tiger, hidden dragon” looks like a part of TV series, I guess it is because of HDR;

          Forza Horizon was a 2K only game, was upscaled to 4K recently, I played two versions both on XboxOneX and LG B7T;

          I still remember the first time I saw the difference a Blu-ray brought me on my 24 inch monitor 8 years ago, guess I expected too much from 4K

        • @Hsinking: Forza Horizon 3 is only real 4k on the Xbox One X or PC, it's upscaled 1080p on the Xbox One S.

          Planet Earth II and Blue Planet II are real 4k, shot in 5k & 6k with digital intermediate in 4k.

      Watching 4k HDR Blue Planet II right now on my 65" C7, it's stunning!

      • Wish i had a spare 5k

      • Try the 2K version too if you have it

    • I also have both and on a 55" Sony 9000E, sitting about 2.3m away, I struggled to tell any difference in the sharpness/clarity. The HDR was noticeable though, not a mind blowing difference but noticeable.

    • You need to have both 4K HDR TV set as well as a 4K HDR bluray player to actually see the real 4K HDR. As well as set it up right (for my Samsung TV, I have to set the right HDMI port to used for 4K)

    Thanks, nearly bought this last week, glad I waited.

  • Nice! Need to use my Blu-ray player more!

  • FYI, The Blue Planet (aka Blue Planet 1) wasn't filmed in HD as far as I can tell.

    • Yes. Up scaled from SD.
