Ted's Cameras Are Grey Importers (Be warned)

Despite the banner on their eBay page they are selling grey import items.

I recently purchased a lens from them and it arrived with an American/Canadian warranty card.

I am currently in the process of contacting them to request the product be replaced with Australian stock.

Be warned their banner is deceitful claiming "Australian Stock" and "Australian Warranty" when neither is true.

That's not indicative of a grey import.

If it is imported through the licensed distributor and has local warranty through the distributor and/or manufacturer, it is still local stock.

Surely this is a troll ? If not, Err you do realise that warranty card would be generic and put in the box for US/CAN?

If there’s an Australian charger in the box then you can be pretty certain it’s Aus Stock.

How do you charge a camera lense?

      • Carefully…

      • Some gyroscopically stabilized lenses have a built-in battery.

      • Miss read that completely

Maybe contact local distributor with serial number on your lens?

Ted being the importer can offer the same consumer guarantee equal or above the manufacturers warranty. They’ve been operating a long time so you’ve nothing to worry about.

  • Didn't know lens were manufactured to certain regions. Thanks for that heads up.

  • You've gone quwackers

    • Well, due to the difference in magnetic polarity, the lenses for the northern hemisphere is manufactured with the opposite internal gyro to one manufactured for the southern hemisphere.

Also, we have light coming from the north, whereas the northern hemisphere has light coming from the south so the polarised film coating is oriented upside down otherwise you get what is known as Ripperdale Effect.

  • I don't believe teds selling grey. They are reputable retailer actually maybe the biggest in Australia.

  • If we assume that this North American warranty card is indeed indicative of an overseas model, this does not hinder your warranty; any product sold by a registered Australian business with a valid ABN is subject to full Consumer Law protection, if I'm not mistaken. The reason why grey imports are an issue from Australian sellers is because they sell them from overseas "branches", e.g Purchasing a MacBook Air from Kogan came from "Kogan Hong Kong", thus no obligation to adhere to Consumer Law.
