$180 David Jones gift card to kill - any charitable ideas?

So I've had this card with me for a while, expiring soon and it was originally won in a contest with a group years ago. We discussed on how to divide it but for $25-30 each and the fact we all didn't shop there, not many ideas on what actually to spend it on.

Anyways, I was the one entrusted with the gift card and subsequently I feel responsible for it. I think at this stage the best solution would be to just donate it to charity.

So I could either sell the card for cash donation ($150 for a $180 gift card is decent?) or most likely, I buy something and then donate it to a charity.

Trouble is, I don't know what charities need. I was thinking of buying $180 worth of socks and donating them (because everyone needs socks right?) but those got sold out. Right now I'm thinking a pressure cooker for some reason lol.

So I'd love to hear ideas all around!

What do charities usually need? What charities can I donate to in Sydney? Suggestions for any products?

    Sell for cash (discounted as expiring soon) and donate the cash, or use that cash to purchase something related to the charity.

      Do you think I'll find a buyer quick enough for that? Also, would $150 for a $180 card be reasonable?

        I don't think you could donate the card as is, due to the nearing expiry. The two questions are related; there is always a buyer, just need to find the right price.

      DJ seems to have overpriced clothes so I feel it would be a bit of a waste to use it on that, could barely get two pairs of jeans for $180? I'm leaning to something like a kitchen appliance

        You can always get the gift card's expiry extended by merging it with another gift card if you're that stuck for ideas so it won't go to waste.

          You don't need to merge it with another gift card. Provided that the gift card has over $5, Customer Services will extend if for you if you ask.

    Why not keep it for yourself? Make a smaller cash donation and claim a tax deduction for yourself while you’re at it.

    DJ is overpriced so I recommend to sell the gift card and donate the funds and maybe do a tax deduction or split the money, donate the money everyone should of got and everyone can do a tax deduction?

    Socks! Buy a bunch of warm socks and donate them the Salvos City Misson, homeless shelters cannot get enough of them during winter and Salvos drive about in winter giving out socks, beanies and sleeping bags, it would be a great help.
