Looking for Opinions on Kogan vs. Hisense TV's

Looking at getting a smallish budget 4K TV. Two good options I've found are:

Hisense N6 43" 4K UHD HDR Smart LED LCD TV $648

or

Kogan 43" Agora Smart 4K LED TV (Series 8 KU8000) $429

I don't mind about smart TV stuff too much, main function will be connecting to my PC through HDMI.

Any opinions on which I should go for/ which I shouldn't?

I've heard that Kogan TVs are really crap so perhaps stay away from them

I have a cheapie JVC 4K TV and I would say that this is the equivalent of the Kogan. Probably rebadged.
I use it for a monitor & that's about it.
Fit for purpose and nothing special.
      Agree with you.

If you want a 4K TV, get a real one. Brand names such as LG, Sony, Hisense, Samsung etc.

      Cheers

Definitely Hisense, try and get the extra $$$ for the N7 - apparently significantly superior and is amongst the best LEDs available.

    • From what I can see the N7 only comes in bigger sizes; don't really want to overwhelm the space I've got with a huge TV

      • How big is the space?

        • Don't have square meterage, but it's a small studio apartment, and I sit quite close to the set.

      • don't worry, you'll get used to it real quick

    • I have also been advised by JB staff if you go for a Hisense; at least the N7 and nothing less.

  • Hisense are pretty good but I would try get the N7.

  • +1 for N7

I seem to remember many years ago someone running Kogan saying on whirlpool there TVs use a Samsung screen or something which makes them as good as Samsung. Not sure whether thats true, or changed over the years. Still though I bought a Hisense TV and I really like it, the system it uses is probably one of my fav that I've had to deal with and is just cheap and works great for me.

    • Do you game on it by any chance?

I do, though not massively gamer (like I don't know about stuff like refresh rates of the tv etc). But for me I like it for my console gaming and for extending my PC for games. One thing I like is that the screen aspect ratio can be changed to the input I think (so I don't get issues with games trimming off sides on my PS4, or getting the screen overscanning or underscanning like I do on my other TVs).

I also use multiple HDMIs for xbox/ps4/chromecast/PC and the Hisense I have doesn't have enough slots, might not be an issue? But might be good to know you might need an extra accessory.

Also has CEC compatability so things like plugging my Nintendo Switch in will automatically change the TV channel so I can back to playing which I think is kool.

        • Hmmm that sounds like it could suit my purposes

    • Panels is one thing but yeah, it's all about the internals that drive them.

Our Kogan 55" died after a month ($500) and we bought a Hisense after the refund came through (another 6 weeks).

  • My Hisense TV is slow and terrible, but Kogan is plain worse

  • hisense come with 3 yrs warranty & HDR, plus u can pick up from jb, kogan with 3 yrs warranty + delivery cost around $520

My workplace bought a Kogan "smart" TV recently. It takes over 30 seconds just to start up!

    • Not very smart, then :-p

    • It might be "smart", but obviously wasn't advertised as fast.

  • Hisense is basically king of the budget brands. Good value imo.

Obviously your typical samsung, sony & LG is going to be better. But it's far better than kogan, soniq etc etc.

  • I am thinking Kogan is for if you have to buy a new tv for your grandparents or old senior neighbour.

In my case I am probably getting a Hisense for myself but if I have to get one for some others it's Kogan unless Hisense comes in pretty cheap or similar price.
