Wireless Broadband for Home

HI Folks, I am looking for an alternative to NBN for our new house. Does anyone have any experience with wireless broadband? Is it fast enough to run Netflix?
I work from home most days so it's got to be reliable too.
We were going to have optus install Cable but they would want to run a wire from the pole…..(we just paid $$$ to have electricity run underground). We'd have to get our own contractor to run a line under the street to the pit which is rather costly too.

Any feedback or other alternative suggestions are welcome!

  • Depends on what area you are in. I believe Optus has speed cap of 12/1 with 200gb for about $70 so that should be sufficient for Netflix.

The upload restriction might be problematic if your work requires a lot of uploads

  • Try uniti wireless

    • Thanks! I am having a look at them!

      • Not available in my area…;(

  • +1

I am a user of Optus Home wireless broad band and I would be hesitant to recommend it as a business solution.
I'm 300m away from the local tower and have direct line of sight.
When i first got it the speeds were always 12/1 now i seem to get half of that and sometimes not even a quarter of that.
If i could get out of contract i'd sign up to the double data tab deal 200gb per month for almost the same price but have full access to optus 4g.
I get up to 150mbps on my optus mobile.

  • Last I checked whirlpool gave Node1 wireless a good review which is apparently 100mbs

    • only in perth?

      • Oops I never actually looked into if they were national or not

  • So if I would have to choose between this two from Optus, both are 200GB and 70$ per month:
    Home Wireless: https://www.optus.com.au/shop/broadband/home-wireless-broadb…
    or
    Mobile Broadband: https://www.optus.com.au/shop/broadband/mobile-broadband/dat…

    Which one should I choose?

    • second one as per my comments above.
home wireless is capped at 12/1

  • Just put my partner on Uniti in Adelaide. Background - pathetic ADSL speed due to distance from exchange, NBN still years off in her area. Her house is 750 metres from a Uniti tower. Signed yesterday, installed today. Speed has gone from 1-4 Mbps on ADSL to around 26 on Uniti. The Uniti plan costs less than ADSL and she qualified for the current three months free promotion plus referral code bonus. Stand by to hear the splash as she tosses the ADSL and compulsory home phone overboard! Pity it is not available for you, but worth looking at for others in a similar situation.
